Job Description

At the Rimrock, our spaces are as iconic as the mountain views that surround us, and keeping them at their best requires leadership that blends precision, care, and technical excellence. As Assistant Manager, Engineering, you’ll be the driving force behind our facility operations, ensuring every system, structure, and space functions flawlessly.

In this hands‑on leadership role, you’ll oversee daily maintenance activities, coordinate technical teams, and serve as acting department head in the Director’s absence. You’ll bring structure and strategy to a fast‑paced environment, balancing proactive planning with swift, quality‑driven execution.

Your leadership inspires accountability, your technical insight prevents disruption, and your presence ensures calm, safe, and seamless operations across our hotel and residences.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the Engineering and Maintenance department.
  • Act as department leader in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
  • Schedule team members to align with business and operational needs.
  • Review daily timesheets, authorize payroll, and manage weekly maintenance schedules.

Strategic Planning & Budgeting

  • Participate in monthly expense reviews, forecasting, and month‑end reporting.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and recommend timely purchase of replacement parts and materials.
  • Support hotel energy conservation initiatives and long‑term sustainability goals.
  • Technical Oversight

  • Supervise hotel and staff accommodation maintenance, including building systems, public areas, guest rooms, and back‑of‑house spaces.
  • Manage the property’s preventative maintenance program and ensure timely execution.
  • Oversee building automation and energy management systems to optimize efficiency.
  • Coordinate with contractors for specialized work; verify quality and safety standards.
  • Team Development

  • Train, mentor, and support maintenance employees to build technical expertise and engagement.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, pride, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead daily toolbox talks and contribute to monthly health & safety meetings.
  • Collaboration & Communication

  • Represent the Engineering Department in leadership and operations meetings.
  • Partner closely with other departments to identify needs, schedule work, and minimize guest impact.
  • Respond to guest requests promptly and professionally, ensuring timely follow‑up.
  • Qualifications

    What You Bring

  • A degree in mechanical engineering or skilled trade certification in Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, or other building trade certification, supported by 5+ years of leadership experience in a maintenance or engineering role.
  • Proven ability to lead by example, motivating your team to deliver excellence while maintaining safety and efficiency as top priorities.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem‑solving skills, you see the big picture while keeping a close eye on the details.
  • Confidence in analyzing data, budgets, and reports, using insights to guide decisions and optimize performance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments while maintaining clear and direct expectations.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Experience in luxury hospitality, where balancing guest experience with operational excellence is second nature.
  • A natural sense of accountability, urgency, and precision, you take ownership and ensure the job gets done right, safely, and on time.
  • Bonus if You Bring

  • Power engineering class 5 or higher.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of energy conservation initiatives or sustainability projects.
  • Familiarity with Forbes or LQA standards and an understanding of how engineering excellence shapes the guest experience.
  • A knack for training and developing teams, ensuring technical skill and engagement go hand in hand.
  • A genuine passion for mountain hospitality and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment where no two days are the same.
  • Who You Are

You’re driven, focused, and calm under pressure. A natural problem‑solver who thrives on challenge, you balance strategic thinking with hands‑on leadership. You take ownership, lead with precision, and hold yourself and others to high standards. You’re not afraid to make tough calls, but you do so with fairness, clarity, and purpose. You find satisfaction in keeping complex systems running smoothly, knowing your work powers the guest and colleague experience behind the scenes.
