Job Description

This is a temporary full-time assignment for approximately twelve () months.

The Registered Nurse works collaboratively with the staff and physicians in the management of UroOncology Patients within the Department of urology / MKUWC at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of assigned patients, with emphasis on assessment, education, prevention, maintenance and restoration of health utilizing the nursing process in the delivery of quality patient care.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • In collaboration with attending physician, assist with patient clinics, chart preparation, and nursing duties such as, catheterization Catheter care, pre and post op surgery teaching and other duties as directed.
  • Co-ordinates, delivers, supervises and evaluates patient care
  • Systematically assesses patients' physical, and psychosocial needs
  • Assumes responsibility for health education and counselling of patients
  • Assists patients and their families in identifying resources which lead to the maximum state of health
  • Plans, organizes and determines priorities in the giving of patient care
  • Active involvement in the overall coordination of patient care
  • Reports and records accurately and appropriately, using electronic charting
  • Undertakes triage responsibilities, including telephone triage
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates a broad range of patient care activities related to health promotion and chronic disease management
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses’ of Ontario
  • Current BCLS
  • BScN (preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) years recent urology, urologic and oncology patient nursing experience
  • Excellent teaching skills experience that incorporates adult learning principles
  • Flexible with superior organization skills and the ability to work effectively to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion, make decisions and then take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient inquiries
  • Superior work ethic, professionalism and reliability; excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations
  • Sound knowledge base in urology, urologic procedures, surgeries and patient care
  • Commitment to professional practice and personal development
  • Commitment to shared leadership and team-based decision making
  • Commitment to patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
