Calgary Co-op is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Nutritionist to join our team. You will be primarily responsible for providing science-based nutritional information to members, while working closely with all stakeholders on providing lifestyle changes that will assist members in achieving their healthy eating goals.

You will collaborate with all stakeholders to create the whole health solution for the member around ailment, natural solutions (vitamins) and balance diets towards better health.

You will also be responsible for facilitating health and nutrition seminars, personal consultations while championing Calgary Coop’s Whole Health Solutions.

You will provide input into the strategic initiatives and role development.

Responsibilities :

Provide science-based dietary guidance, nutritional education, and consultations to members via personal consultations, store tours, in-store seminars, etc.

Most common conditions requiring guidance and education may include, heart disease, high blood pressure, weight loss, diabetes, food allergies, identified by pharmacy.

  • Facilitate in-store seminars and on various health and nutrition topics which may include providing product and culinary demonstrations.
  • Champion community collaborations that support Whole Health Initiatives along with science-based health and wellness efforts, including partnering with local health organizations and clinics.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, as required, to support Whole Health Initiatives that reflect consumer preferences and trends within the food center, including Catering.
  • Assist members in understanding nutrition labels through in-store education, brochures, articles, and websites.
  • Conduct assessments of members nutritional status and requirements.
  • Develop nutritional care plans and provide nutrition education and counselling.
  • Work with members, families, communities, and other professionals to help Calgarians achieve and maintain good health.
  • Conduct food and nutrition research in academic and practical work settings to promote up to date, evidence-based professional practice, and service.
  • Collect payments when required.
  • Provide leadership and be a Subject Matter Expert for all whole health solutions.
  • Be willing to travel locally and abroad as required for business, training, or functions.
  • Participate in the development and action of yearly competency performance work plan(s) and development action plan(s).

Assists in ensuring the workplace is safe in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Food Safety procedures, legislation and policies including participate in HSE activities, assist in identifying unhealthy, unsafe situations and corrective action is taken.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Post-secondary degree, or postgraduate qualification in human nutrition.
  • Excellent business acumen and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to interact, establish and maintain good rapport with all stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve and network for job efficiency and effectiveness
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and influencing skills
  • Be a champion of change management.
  • Must have reliable transportation and must be able to work retail hours

Desirable Qualifications :

  • Prior retail experience
  • Experience and knowledge of working in a unionized environment
