Student LearningSuccess is looking for casual Academic Aides to provide note taking, academicsupport and assistance for students with disabilities.
The employee will beconfident in their writing and communication skills, demonstrate an ability towork both independently (with minimal supervision) and in a team environment,have good judgement, and be proficient working with individuals withdisabilities.
Theposition is casual and the hours may vary depending on the need for services.The Academic Aide position may support students on Main Campus, Souch Campus,Patricia Campus, and online so the location of the work may vary depending onthe need for services.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist the learningservices department with the delivery of student services such as aide support,exam invigilation, administrative support, event support as required.
Assist the student withaccessing course materials, setting up personal effects in the classroom,assistance moving to and from classes, and other related duties required.
Facilitate access toassistive technologies as required for students with disabilities.
Communicate andcoordinate effectively with appropriate staff in the Department and thestudent’s instructors.
Mandatory training asrequired for the assignment.
Assist with other dutiesas required dependent on assignment.
Skills& Abilities :
An interest in working with students who havedisabilities is essential.
Proficiency with MS Office and touch-typing skills arepreferred.
Additional skills required include an ability tolisten well while typing or handwriting with speed and accuracy, and an abilityto recognize and prioritize key course concepts.
Familiarity with specific course subject and orcontent would be beneficial.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Ability to interact effectively with students withdisabilities.
Organizational, communication and problem-solvingskills.
Ability to work effectively in a teamwork environment.
Ability to use current technology (e.g. MOODLE (LMS),Microsoft TEAMS, Cisco WebEx, Zoom, Lock-down browser, ServiceNow, Read / Write,and e-proctoring apps).
Willingness to learn and use new technologies.
Qualifications :
A post-secondary diploma in a related field (e.g.Educational Assistant, Teacher’s Assistant) is required.
Equivalent combinations of education and experiencemay be considered.
Experience in post-secondary setting is beneficial.
Experienced related to persons with disabilities,including learning, mental health, and physical disabilities.
Retired professionals, teachers, instructors,administrators, K-12 employees are suitable candidates.
Ability to travel between campuses may be required.
Applicants witheducation credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentialsevaluated by World Education Services or the International QualificationsAssessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration : $26.46 to $ 33.13per hour plus 12% vacation and statutory holiday pay (Classification Instructional Assistant I)
Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)Collective Agreement.
