We are actively seeking an experienced full time Senior Royalty Analyst to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Team Lead, Royalties , the successful candidate will apply their operational and / or financial skills in the area of Alberta Oil Sands Royalty (OSR) and Saskatchewan Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Accounting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working with finance, operations, and development teams to ensure the accurate cost analysis and application, royalty calculation, reporting, project application and overall administration of the Alberta and Saskatchewan royalty projects.
This position offers the successful candidate the ability to work in a team environment to develop new processes, use their critical and creative thinking skills and establish a strong understanding of royalty regulations to add value to the business.
Essential Functions :
- Prepare, review, and submit the monthly Good Faith Estimate (GFE) / Monthly Royalty Calculation (MRC) forms to the Alberta Department of Energy.
- Reconcile Oil Sands Royalty and / or revenue accounts at month end.
- Complete annual End of Period Statements (EOPS) for Oil Sands royalty reporting to the Alberta Crown.
- Complete annual EOR Operator’s Returns for royalty reporting to the Saskatchewan Crown.
- Complete annual Cost Analysis and Reporting Enhancement (C.A.R.E.) reporting and other ad hoc reporting as required by the Alberta Department of Energy.
- Coordinate, prepare (with input from Development, Reserves, and other applicable groups), and submit Oil Sands Royalty applications to the Alberta Department of Energy.
- Assist with audit requests related to OSR & EOR projects.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Capital and Operations accounting functions as needed to ensure accurate monthly Oil Sands Royalty payable and expense reporting.
- Assist in calculation of monthly royalty accruals.
- Participate in researching legislation, guidelines and industry publications related to Oil Sands Royalty.
- Promote and implement business processes and improvements.
Qualifications Include :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance would be considered an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of Oil and Gas royalty accounting experience.
- Attention to detail, deadline-oriented, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic, desire for continuous improvement and ability to learn quickly.
- Advanced MS Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, INDEX / MATCH, etc), and working with large data.
- Experience with Qbyte FM & OPTIX.
- Working knowledge of SAGD operations, Alberta Oilsands Regulations and SK Crown Royalty Regulations.
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta Modernized Royalty Framework, and impacts to C* calculations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Ability to set and meet challenging deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Effective team player with strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal) to manage internal and external relationships.
- Promote and implement business processes and improvements.
