Structural Engineering Student

The Opportunity :

WSP is currently seeking a dynamic and innovative Co-op student or structural intern to join our Structural Engineering Group, located in our Calgary office.

This position will have the opportunity of working with a multi-disciplinary team to develop creative design solutions at various stages in a project, and thrive in a dynamic and proactive learning environment.

A Day in the life :

• Perform Calculations and Assessments for various structures, under the supervision of a Senior Engineer
• Perform such calculations using current design software and advanced finite element modelling underpinned by a sound understanding of basic principles
• Be curious to explore and help advance the concepts of design automation
• Respond to client requests as needed to help further their business
• Write technical reports when required
• Assist in coordination of project documentation under supervision of project manager
• Contribute to the preparation of detail drawings, sections and standard details, and ensure quality adherence
• Review contract documents, shop drawings and respond to contractor inquiries
• Conduct field reviews and condition assessments
• High focus on ability to develop creative solutions in complex environments in response to unexpected site and project challenges at short notice and in collaboration with the project team
• Occasional travel for site assessments and site support

What you will bring to WSP....

• Developing knowledge of the National Building Code, as well as other applicable codes and standards.
• Strong load path understanding
• Strength in any of the following software - ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, RAM and / or Robot

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
