This Senior Claims Counsel role assists the Excess Claims Director & Counsel in the overall management of the LAWPRO Excess Claims program.
The successful candidate will have direct carriage of complex primary and excess files while also contributing to the Excess program's file management, training, auditing, reporting, outreach and analytic functions.
In addition, the Senior Claims Counsel supports designated Unit Directors in the administration of their respective units and with special projects.
To be successful, you will :
- Understand and participate in achieving the vision, values and goals for the company as a whole;
- Have ten or more combined years of experience in civil litigation and as a LAWPRO Claims Counsel;
- Have demonstrated superior litigation management skills and coverage analysis experience;
- Be goal oriented with strong leadership and management skills;
- Have excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with staff, management, external stakeholders, insureds and others;
- Have a proven ability to coach and mentor others;
- Be proactive and creative to ensure the timely resolution of claims;
- Have strong legal knowledge and an interest in developing expertise in excess insurance;
- Be able to balance the demands of a law-related role with the process and structure of an insurance company;
- Make effective use of technology;
- Be a licensed lawyer in good standing in Ontario (or Canada).
