We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of U.S. Tax Operations to join our tax operations team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and assisting with client and organizational tax reporting requirements under global tax regimes, including Qualified Intermediary (QI), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
The role involves managing key tax-related processes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, leading critical tax reporting activities, and leading tax related projects.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
U.S. Tax Reporting and Year-End Processes :
- Manage and oversee the accurate completion of all global tax reporting requirements, including forms 1099, 1042, 1042-S, Part XVIII (FATCA), and Part XIX (CRS).
- Lead and supervise critical client year-end tax reporting processes with a team of specialists.
- Ensure that all U.S. withholding taxes from U.S. sourced income payments are reconciled and paid to the IRS in a timely manner.
- Ensure timely response to client inquiries regarding tax slips and requests for amendments.
- Lead and mentor a team of tax specialists, providing guidance on tax reporting processes, compliance requirements, and professional development.
QI, FATCA, and CRS Compliance :
- Oversee all aspects of the QI compliance program, including the upkeep of the QI Governance documentation and policy, along with the management of FATCA and CRS policies.
- Manage cross-functional projects related to tax compliance, tax reporting systems, and process improvements.
- Ensure project milestones are met on time and within scope, coordinating with various departments including technology, operations, and compliance.
- Coordinate annual QI training and ensure that all relevant personnel are up to date with the latest compliance standards.
- Assist the QI Responsible Officer and the Contact Person with periodic reviews and certification of compliance, which occur every three years.
- Participate in key industry committees, identifying initiatives and regulatory changes that may impact the business.
- Stay current on changes impacting tax operations and conduct assessments to manage the integration of tax-related updates within the organization.
- Verify that key data is accurately captured in internal systems by reviewing control reports, and taking corrective action when needed.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure that the necessary withholding procedures are in place for U.S.-sourced income.
- Oversee the tax component of client onboarding, including data mapping, form sampling, data queries, and ensuring all documentation is compliant with internal / external standards.
- Manage the annual process of obtaining updated documentation from clients for expiring forms and treaty statements.
- Maintain and update the risk and control matrix for tax-related processes.
- Coordinate the annual internal compliance attestation for QI, FATCA, and CRS processes.
- Administer the collection of U.S. tax documentation, ensuring compliance with IRS regulations.
- Escalate issues that may impact tax compliance to the Vice President, Taxation & Estates.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING :
- Minimum of 5 years experience in tax operations, with strong focus on QI, FATCA, and CRS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. tax reporting requirements, including forms 1099,1042, 1042-S
- Knowledge of Chapter 3 and 4 of the Internal Revenue Code and related Treasury Regulations including Section 302, 304, 305C, and 871m
- Knowledge of U.S. withholding certificates (e.g., W-9s, W-8s) and, but not limited to, 1099, 1042-S, and 945 reporting and FATCA and CRS self-certification
- Understanding of dividend and corporate action concepts
- Knowledge of CDS, CDCC, DTC, and OCC
- Intermediate Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
