Principal, Accounting Standards - 12-14 month contract
The Opportunity
The Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) serves the public interest by maintaining high-quality accounting standards for the major categories of Canadian reporting entities, contributing to global standard setting, and being accountable to its stakeholders.
You will be a member of a highly skilled, energetic and committed team of professionals to advise and carry out the plans of the AcSB.
Working directly with senior professionals, you will be developing accounting and financial reporting standards and other guidance for public companies, private enterprises, not-for-profit organizations and pension plans.
This requires you to lead committees of volunteers to create accounting and financial reporting standards and other guidance, as well as communicate with a network of educators, professional associations, international standard setters and members of the public.
This hybrid role is national in scope and can be aligned to any of our CPA Canada offices, with the possibility of remote within Canada.
Periodic travel is required. The targeted annual salary range for this contract position is $120,000 to $140,000 and is commensurate with experience.
About the position
Your leadership, both as a technical expert and skilled facilitator will bring together people and ideas, resulting in timely and high quality standards and other guidance for the benefit of the Accounting Standards Board's stakeholders. You will need to :
- establish and nurture senior level contacts with various stakeholder groups and other international standard setters;
- work independently to identify issues, explore alternatives, propose solutions and prepare any necessary meeting materials;
- clearly articulate the results of your work to the Chair and volunteer members of the AcSB; and
- design and present webcasts, and develop other communiques.
What we're looking for
The preferred candidate will be an innovative professional accountant with a minimum of 8+ years post-qualifying experience, possessing the following attributes and skills :
- A dynamic and strategic thinker with sound judgment and integrity
- Interpersonal skills that reflect your ability to perform with tact and diplomacy when dealing in group situations
- In-depth knowledge of accounting standards
- Experience with the private for-profit sector and / or the not-for-profit sectors is desirable
- A flair for research and preparing creative solutions to complex problems
- The ability to plan and carry out projects according to plan
- An effective writer and presenter
- A team player
- Fluency in English is required and French is highly desirable
Success depends on your ability to integrate strong technical knowledge with effective strategic thinking and communication skills, and to facilitate consensus and understanding among key interested and affected parties.
