Reporting to the Vice President, Research, the Research Assistant position supports the Vice President and the Autism Research Centre.

We are seeking a Research Assistant with experience working with teams interacting with individuals with disabilities in a fast-paced research environment.

As a Research Assistant within the Bloorview Research Institute, the successful candidate will be required to work alongside an interdisciplinary research team working in the field of disability research and participate in BRI-related events, committees, and meetings.

Strong skills in attention to detail, judgement, effective communication, interpersonal, facilitation, organization, time management, and priority-setting are critical to the success of this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing clinical, research and administrative support to the Vice-President, Research
  • End to end coordination including but not limited to maintaining, organizing, and coordinating the schedule, logistics and administrative needs of the Vice President, Research
  • Responsible for recruitment, scheduling of appointments, facilitating informed consent / assent, and supporting all families' understanding of the procedures and implications of the research study
  • Organize internal and external research events, information sessions and symposiums, including travel arrangements, meeting rooms, catering and audio-visual equipment services
  • Establish and manage video / telephone conference calls
  • Initiate and maintain research files that will include original consent, documentation, general correspondence, and data collection forms
  • Update websites and databases with predetermined content
  • Liaises with Information Systems, Finance and Human Resources
  • Maintenance of minor research equipment and assets
  • Support the maintenance of faculty CVs to ensure information is accurate and up to date
  • Sources out goods or services based on review of specification requirements
  • Provide support for several internal and external committees
  • Completes expense reports and monthly credit card reconciliation for the research team
  • Coordination of staff / trainee timecards
  • Processing and submitting HR Action Forms for staff and trainees
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in health, science or business with 5 years demonstrated administrative experience in a professional setting.
  • Experience or knowledge of Redcap or other databases is an asset.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Significantly skilled with MS Office products : Excel, Word Power Point and Outlook
  • Able to use enhanced MS Outlook calendar management options and virtual meetings tools (Zoom and Teams)
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Professional and friendly demeanour
  • Proactive with exceptional project and event coordination skills
  • Skilled in coordinating travel and conferences for others
  • Superior attention to detail and quality of work
  • Works well under pressure, can prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Hands-on experience with updating scientist's Curriculum Vitae (i.e. Canadian Common CV)
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Any work or volunteer experience with populations with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD would be an asset
  • Clinical research experience would be an asset
