Specialist, Client Development
The Specialist, Client Development (Edmonton), is a key member of Bennett Jones’ national Client & Business Development Team.
Reporting (interim) to the Chief Client Development Officer, and working with the Local Managing Partner, and other partners and leadership team members in the Edmonton office, this individual will act as a strategic advisor and resource to help identify and pursue opportunities for revenue generation and brand awareness in the Edmonton and Alberta markets.
We’re looking for a candidate that has a strong knowledge of the Edmonton business and legal community and its major industries, who can execute the sales strategy while also managing the planning and logistics of targeted communications and thought leadership initiatives and client experience initiatives, drawing on the resources of the national Client & Business Development team where appropriate.
This individual will also be involved in uncovering leads, strategizing pursuits, coaching lawyers to move opportunities through the sales pipeline and co-selling with lawyers at events and other networking functions.
Essential Functions :
- Support Edmonton lawyers and practice teams with their business development planning and execution, including identification and pursuit of opportunities in the market.
- Articulate and optimize the ways in which we sell our Edmonton capabilities nationally to existing and prospective clients, including facilitating Edmonton lawyers’ integration in the Firm’s Industry Teams, Key Client Teams and national Practice Groups.
- Identify and execute opportunities to build brand awareness and client loyalty in the local market, including relevant client seminars and social events, association memberships, industry sponsorships, and speaking, publishing or media opportunities (working with colleagues in Facilities and Events & Client Relations, as appropriate).
- Working with the Proposals & Pursuits team nationally, assist with (and where appropriate, lead) the development, writing and editing of proposals, positioning decks and other marketing materials.
- Develop an understanding of the Edmonton lawyers’ domestic and international client and referral relationships and, working with Client & Business Development colleagues, ensure we are sharing information, coordinating outreach and maximizing these relationships.
- Research and attend local business community activities as a representative of Bennett Jones, relaying any relevant information and contacts within the Edmonton office.
- Help ensure client contact and activity information is tracked and maintained in the firm CRM system (InterAction).
- Support the Edmonton Office Managing Partner and leadership team with other initiatives designed to drive and support collaboration within the firm, client engagement, growth, recruitment and retention.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in Business, Communications, PR or related field
- 5+ years’ experience in business, marketing, or sales in a professional services environment (law firm experience strong asset).
- A strong understanding of the business community and climate in Edmonton and surrounding areas including Northern Alberta.
- Strong communications and analytical skills; able to work independently and as a team.
- Must display the highest level of client service and diplomacy.
- Ability to manage competing and changing priorities and effectively deliver quality work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to master new applications and software, such as CRM and project management software, is important.
