Job Summary

As a member of the provincial Client Services team, the Peer Support Coordinator will develop, promote, and market an active living peer program designed to assist persons with spinal cord injuries and their family members.

We are currently looking for an innovative individual to work 3-days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) . This position is based out of the provincial office.

Reporting to the Manager, Peer Support, you will :

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, volunteers, stakeholders and professional partners
  • Recruit Peer Mentors
  • Train Peer Mentors to relay lived experience to persons with a spinal cord injury and their family members.
  • Meet with clients who have recently sustained a spinal cord injury who are interested in Peer Program or having a peer match
  • Match volunteers with new referrals and engage volunteers through other means such as attendance and presentations at monthly Peer Connections;

or representing SCI Ontario in the community.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with acute care, rehabilitation and community service providers, in collaboration with the Service Navigation Coordinators
  • Ensure collaboration with other service agencies and health care professionals to maximize access for clients
  • Maintain required program records and statistical information for reporting purposes
  • Plan and implement monthly Peer Connections sessions and actively support special events and projects.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of spinal cord injury through personal lived experience
  • Training and / or relevant experience in peer support, disability issues, volunteer program development and program management
  • Undergraduate degree in rehabilitation, social work, psychology or related discipline, an asset
  • Ability to develop effective working partnerships with various community groups and service and health care providers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on building and maintaining connections and relationships using a collaborative approach
  • Demonstrated planning / organization and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to facilitate presentations and workshops
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency working in an MS Office environment.
  • Ability to travel within the GTA
