Job Description

Position Summary:

The position reports to the Controller. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day transactional detail and management of supporting accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervise the activities of the junior accounting team members
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of accounts payable and intercompany transactions
  • Prepare bank and investment journal entries to allow for bank reconciliations to be completed
  • Prepare various month-end accruals
  • Prepare payroll journal entries
  • Lead expense allocation review and prepare preliminary variance reports to Controller for review
  • Prepare monthly and year-end working papers
  • Assist with long-term care reporting to the Ministry of Health
  • Prepare monthly Visa reconciliations
  • Process reoccurring cheque requisitions
  • Coordinate month-end duties and ensure month-end close timelines are met by all staff members
  • Assist Controller with various projects
  • Other role related add-hoc duties

Qualifications

We are looking for a Team Member with the following Qualifications / Experience:

  • Proven work experience in a senior accounting role with 2 or more direct reports
  • 5+ years of overall accounting experience including 2+ years of supervisory responsibility
  • Accounting degree
  • CPA designation is not required but strongly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of financial accounting software (Yardi preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of real estate accounting would be an asset
  • Experience and ability to lead and mentor others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Ability to see the big picture while maintaining high accuracy
  • Ability to meet and establish deadlines by focusing on the process necessary to produce deliverables
