Job Title: Data Modeler / Snowflake Data Engineer
Client: IBM Canada (Travel & Transportation Project)
Location: Remote (Ontario, Canada)

The client is looking for a professional with strong experience in Snowflake, SQL, and Data Modeling. The candidate will design enterprise data models, build and optimize data pipelines, develop Snowflake objects, and support cloud-based data warehouse solutions. They should also have experience with ETL/ELT processes and working with both structured and semi-structured data.

Required Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in Data Modeling, Data Engineering, or Data Warehousing.
  • Strong experience with enterprise data warehouse and cloud data platforms.

Required Skills

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with hands-on experience using Snowflake (highly preferred).
  • Solid understanding of data modeling techniques, including Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault Modeling, and Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
  • Good knowledge of ETL/ELT concepts, cloud data platforms, and modern data warehouse practices.
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data (JSON, XML, Parquet, Avro, etc.).
  • Ability to document data models, technical specifications, and communicate analytical findings clearly to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills with attention to detail.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Exposure to modern data engineering tools such as dbt, Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow, Matillion, or similar ETL/ELT tools.
  • Experience with data warehouse modernization, governance, and performance optimization.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data models using industry best practices.
  • Develop logical and physical data models utilizing Dimensional, Data Vault, and Medallion architecture methodologies.
  • Build, optimize, and maintain SQL queries and Snowflake database objects.
  • Design and support ETL/ELT pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and integration.
  • Work with structured and semi-structured datasets to support analytics and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and development teams to gather data requirements and implement scalable solutions.
  • Document data models, mapping documents, technical specifications, and design artifacts.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, consistency, and adherence to enterprise data standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues while optimizing performance and scalability.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in cloud-based enterprise data warehouse environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architecture and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative Agile environment.
