What can you expect in this role?
- General administrative and clerking file handling and practice management for Civil Litigation Matters for the Senior Trial Counsel
- Responsible for the ongoing administrative / organization of files (scheduling events, serve / file documents, closing files, entering file details into software, requesting cheques, uploading documents received, and other tasks as assigned)
- Review documents and prepare summaries
- Prepare Affidavit of Documents and other documents as assigned
- Request and manage productions and undertakings
- Support file work by identifying, obtaining, and organizing documents from the clients and from other parties to the litigation
- All aspects of arranging Independent Examinations
- Monitoring the CLU’s trial list to ensure proper clerking support / resources are in place
- Mentoring and providing guidance to assist / train with good running of all files that have a trial date scheduled
- Provide education resources and keeping our recourses up to date for the CLU formal seminars, informal mentoring
- Perform other duties as required
What do you bring to the role?
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Law Clerk as part of a team practicing insurance litigation in Ontario
- Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Assisted in preparation with multiple jury trials (any type)
- High level knowledge with respect to trial procedure, evidence and preparation
- Strong document management skills with the ability to learn Definity’s various software programs
- Demonstrated proficiency with Outlook and all MS Office applications
- Ability to prioritize, organize and execute tasks in a quality manner with strong turnaround time
- Excellent document management skills with ability to utilize the various software systems such as TeamConnect and ACL
- High degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard privileged and confidential information
- Great attention to detail
- Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities
- Team player, adaptable to a changing environment
Salary Range is $55,800 - $102,800.
