The Gateway to Your Future (Travel Required)
Salary Range : $63,687.80 - $79,609.76
This position provides services in all areas of Health and Safety (H&S) and helps builds programs, systems, tools and resources for implementation throughout Gateway operations.
The individual participates in all aspects of Health & Safety programs including injury prevention initiatives, regular inspections, safety meetings, investigations and safety events.
Key Responsibilities
- Researches health and safety issues by reviewing relevant legislation, internal data, external sources and networking with other safety professionals.
- Identifies the need for, researches and writes recommendations for, and implements changes to corporate H&S programs, policies and procedures.
- Plans and implements H&S training for employees.
- Ensures H&S policy and program compliance with regulatory requirements and well as compliance with company expectations at all operations.
- Assists in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
- Monitors H&S performance and trends across the company and initiates / implements improvements.
- Ensures completion of hazard assessments and root cause analysis investigations with completion of corrective measures.
- Reviews existing H&S program and procedures and updates to ensure a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors to all facilities.
In consultation with operations, develops and aligns policies and priorities with corporate focused health and safety strategies.
- Works cooperatively with site Human Resources and management teams for the appropriate implementation and improvement of H&S initiatives.
- Engage, and collaborate with operations toward implementation of safety initiatives
- Build trust with operations as subject matter expert
- Facilitates responses to compliance orders, penalties, assessments and similar items with H&S regulatory bodies.
- Provides advice and resources to the H&S committees and supports the operation of H&S committees.
- Represents the company on H&S matters with external groups and associations.
- Oversees H&S audits and certification of recognition programs (COR)
- Maintenance of applicable documentation, performance measures and analysis of H&S program results and trends.
- Makes presentations to management on H&S initiatives and results across the company.
- Administration of corporate reviews, reporting and auditing.
- Takes on additional responsibilities as required.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of all applicable H&S and human rights legislation such as the Workers’ Compensation Act and OHS Regulations
- Ability to develop, implement and administer programs to multiple locations in various jurisdictions
- Deliver training through in person and web based methods
- Outcome driven professional with excellent communication, problem solving, and collaboration skills
- Provide technical advice and guidance to our operations both in person and remotely
- Ability to drive business improvements through health and safety initiatives
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work productively with employees, managers, contractors and support groups
- Good understanding of human resources programs, policies and procedures
- Sound judgment and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze facts and data to deliver on business needs
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Understanding of union environments and collective agreements and how they relate to health and safety programs
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Consistently visit sites as required to engage, empower, build trust, and analyze sites to ensure compliance with OH&S regulations, Gateway OH&S and continual improvement.
- Strong communication, engagement and relationship building abilities
- Mentoring & coaching abilities
Experience, Training, Certification and Education (demonstrating requirements) :
- Post-secondary education in OHS
- Must possess a valid drivers license
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
- Experience in developing and delivering H&S training programs
