Position Details
What You Will Do
- Manage the daily underwriting operations of a team of commercial lines underwriters in the region
- Manage and underwrite complex new and existing individually underwritten Commercial Property policies
- Develop underwriting processes and procedures
- Review new and renewal underwriting referrals and provide timely approval or modifications
- Participate in developing projections and forecasts for planning
- Analyze claims history, loss trends and expenses
- Build and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships
- Train and coach direct reports
- Support the implementation of strategic initiatives
- Review statistical analysis of data to evaluate the success of current strategies
- Maintain comprehensive competitive and industry information
- Prepare and analyze product based financial and variance reports on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Participate in the development of analytic tools to improve ability to identify issues and trends
Who You Are
- University degree or college diploma with an CIP / FCIP designation
- 8+ years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience with 2+ year of leadership experience
- CIP certification preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong product knowledge and thorough understanding of insurance policy wordings
- Ability to make sound business decisions
- Product management experience with profit & loss responsibility
- Understanding of financial management methods, the nature of insurance risk and reinsurance
- Strategic problem solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Solid knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
- Bilingual written and spoken ( French & English)
