Analytical Instrumentation Supervisor

Job Description

  • Responsible for designing / executing development and training programs for employees.
  • Completing annual PA performance reviews
  • Working with department administration to be accountable for the Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations, maintaining 100% on report card
  • Working with department administration to be accountable for quality monitor and maintain lab QC standards. Complete QC chart monitoring
  • Executing production work and reviewing data
  • Accountable for maintaining production, quality and financial targets.
  • Accountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenance
  • Acts as back up to the Chief / Senior Chemist in their absence.
  • Any ad-hoc tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

Specific technical skills :

  • Previous experience using a variety of Geochemistry instrumentation, specifically AA, ICP or ICP-MS.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in a minerals related laboratory.
  • Previous experience using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Good hand / eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.
  • Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his / her Manager for resolution.
  • Advanced level of creativity required in solving routine problems.
  • Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.

Additional Information

Salary : $60,000 - $70,000 per year
