Manager, Risk Services

Job Description

The Manager, Risk Services is responsible for the direct supervision of technical risk staff who improve our underwriting quality through the execution of on-site assessments, technical consultations and training for our internal stakeholders, policyholders, and broker partners.

The Manager is responsible for the development of their direct reports through impactful coaching, and documentation of performance appraisals along with executing on any development action plans.

The Manager will contribute to the overall strategy of the department through effective budget planning, development of guidelines, assessment templates, training material while striving for excellent employee retention and engagement, succession planning and recruitment.

What can you expect in this role?

• 5+ years of Commercial P&C insurance technical experience
• 3+ years of leadership experience
• Provides effective team leadership to meet the goals of the team and their direct reports.
• Oversees production and quality assurance of risk services activities to improve underwriting quality.
• Provide technical expertise on complex assessments, evaluate and provide feedback to internal stakeholders, our policyholders and broker partners.
• Deliver recognition and reward strategies which contributes to team and individual engagement, positive team dynamics and ongoing excellent retention of technical risk advisors.
• Develop and deliver technical training to our Regional and Corporate underwriting staff that is specific to risk services related topics such as sprinkler protection, electrical and mechanical systems, products liability.
• Develop and deliver presentations to our underwriters, policyholders and broker partners as a valued added service to obtain and retain profitable commercial and farm business.

What do you bring to the role?

Completion of Post Secondary education in the form of business or technical diploma in a relevant discipline such as college technology diploma or skilled trades certification (e.

g. Fire Protection Technology, Licensed Electrician, Construction Technology) or equivalent education

• Experience in cross-functional project management
• Knowledge of Economical's insurance systems
• FCIP / CIP designation
• Specific to infrared - Technical training related to infrared thermography - Level II Advanced Infrared Thermography
• Specific to property - Technical training related to risk control (i.e. RMS School, related fire protection programs, construction, security etc.)
• Specific to Infrared - 3 years' experience related to infrared thermography inspections.
• Specific to property - 3 years' experience in their related field of expertise
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team to foster positive performance and engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and present to leadership.

Posting Range is $84,000 - $154,700

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.

In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
