Learn more about Travel Alberta and what it means to work for a Crown corporation : https : / / industry.travelalberta.com / about / about-travel-alberta POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Manager, Research and Performance, the analyst is responsible for interpretation of tourism statistics and related data to support lines of business across Travel Alberta, provincial and municipal governments, and the broader tourism industry.
This includes industry performance, consumer trends, market potential, business performance, investment returns and competitive intelligence.
The analyst will work with the team to develop quantitative and qualitative research and conduct forward-looking research studies.
STRATEGIC ACCOUNTABILITIES Analysis and interpretation of tourism statistics and related data Support industry partners in measurement using existing tool Maintain data governance to ensure data is consistent, trustworthy and accessible across all business units WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Collect, clean and analyze data to measure outcomes, identify trends and determine gaps, provide key insights and implications concerning tourism management and development.
Conduct research studies ensuring up-to-date research and statistical best practices are used to inform organizational strategic objectives.
Conduct statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to improve forecasting, targeting and performance measurement using quantitative models.
Meet with key internal clients to obtain a thorough understanding of their research needs and support the design of data collection tools : surveys, evaluation forms, interview and focus group guides, secondary data sources, project tracking and monitoring spreadsheets.
Support procurement through vendor selection processes (i.e., RFQ, RFP), contract negotiation and documentation Manage projects that are undertaken in-house and by third-party vendors including developing briefs, outlining scope of work, deliverables, and timelines.
Work with the manager to ensure up-to-date research and statistical best practices are used. Support the development, creation, and facilitation of presentations to convey research results.
Work with cross-functional internal teams as well as external stakeholders to understand and develop business requirements for research studies.
Uphold data governance and quality assurance processes to ensure data is consistent, trustworthy and accessible across all business units.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL A bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, business administration, or other quantitative field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in market research and analysis using a variety of data. Detailed knowledge of the tourism industry, the variety of sectors and businesses that comprise the industry and their unique challenges and the tourism market data sources would be considered an asset.
Detailed knowledge of market research techniques used to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative information is required and their specific application in tourism is an asset.
Well-developed communication skills (verbal and written) to lead discussions and facilitate consensus as well as to communicate complicated tourism-related concepts and corresponding analyses through written reports, briefs, and presentations.
Proven research and analytical and problem-solving skills relative to determining need, analyzing options, making recommendations, and translating research results for decision-makers.
Ability to manage and coordinate the data gathering process and apply appropriate research methodologies to meet information and data requirements of key clients Experience in managing third-party vendors in the delivery of research and business intelligence initiatives.
Sound organizational, time management and priority-setting skills to assist with several high priority projects at the same time.
Strong data modeling experience using regression and other methods, primarily in MS Excel. Experience using and analyzing dashboards in Business Intelligence solutions such as DOMO, Tableau, Power BI or similar platforms is an asset.
