Serving as a member of the Boards Communications team, the Communications Assistant will support the Communications Officer and Digital Production Specialist in engaging with our schools and the Niagara Catholic CommUNITY.
The successful candidate will regularly update school and board websites, create engaging social media posts and will play a key role in supporting the Boards internal and external engagement, growth and retention goals.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT :
- Update the Board and school websites (text, images, and videos)
- Create a social media schedule
- Create and post content for social media platforms to promote and share information about Niagara Catholic
- Use sound judgement to respond appropriately to inquiries and messages on social media and by email
- Assist with media relations, including writing and distributing media releases, and planning media events
- Contribute to the Communications teams efforts to increase community and staff engagement
- Contribute to creating the boards annual advertising campaign
- Send Communications and IT Services notices as required
- Create and share bereavement and other recognition notices as required
- Proofread and edit documents, publications, and web content
- Taking photos and videos at events and to ensure we have current photos for ads and other publications
- Travel to schools and board sites as required
WHAT YOU BRING :
- College or university diploma or degree in journalism, communications, or public relations;
- A minimum of two years working in communications, marketing, journalism, or media relations
- Experience with Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and other online editing and design platforms;
- Experience using established and emerging social media platforms including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram and LinkedIn;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment with competing priorities;
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Willingness to work as part of a dynamic team;
- An ability to effectively manage tasks and projects independently;
- A keen eye for accuracy with exceptional attention to detail.
This is a permanent full-time position.
HOURS : Monday Friday 8 : 30 4 : 30 (some evening and weekend work may be required for special events)
LOCATION : Catholic Education Centre, Welland
