Location : This position will be based out of our Winnipeg office.

The opportunity :

Reporting to the Vice-President, Investments & Lead Portfolio Manager, the Associate Vice-President, Managed Programs & Products (AVP) will be responsible for the curation and management of the Wellington-Altus Private Wealth product shelf.

The incumbent will be engaged in the development and maintenance of all approved products, initial due diligence and risk assessment, product monitoring, and identification of a recommended product sub-set, including the creation, maintenance, and dissemination of product information, portfolio construction advice, and suitability positioning.

The AVP will chair the Product Committee and serve as the primary contact for all product related requests and support needs for internal partners, existing IA teams and all transition and corporate development requirements.

The AVP will also assist the VP in setting strategy and recommendations with respect to product distribution, including the future creation and application of product solutions for UMA, SMA, corporate models, advisor managed funds, white labeled and other products, and the development and delivery of these and other contemplated solutions.

The AVP will play an integral role in product and program development to enhance and improve both advisor and end client experiences and outcomes.

Key responsibilities include :

Product Shelf

  • Maintaining day to day oversight of the SMA & UMA platforms, and coordinate with iAS with respect to UMA decisions on allocation, re-balancing, implementation, manager selection and monitoring.
  • Coordinating on-boarding of new managers and / or mandates to Crescent SMA shelf and investment monitoring, comparing established investment guidelines in IPS to model positions.
  • Oversight of the private / OM product shelf including annual due diligence of managers and mandates, assessment of advisor requests for new OM products, due diligence, asset classification and risk rating and presentation to Product Committee, etc.
  • Supporting growth of the organization by understanding internal partners needs and requirements and aligning product offerings and recommending product changes accordingly.
  • Conducting detailed due diligence and research on public and private / alternative investment strategies and products to ensure a best-in-class product offering and to ensure an ongoing (continuous) product monitoring process.
  • Maintaining relationships with asset managers and product issuers and serving as the principal liaison between this group and Wellington-Altus Private Wealth.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on all product related matters.
  • Supporting advisor teams through the development and maintenance of KYP collateral for all approved and recommended product, sub-managers and products held in Wellington-Altus’ managed programs.
  • Collaborating and supporting marketing, sales, IA teams and compliance on all product related matters.
  • Coordinating and reviewing all product communications for all relevant stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of Product collateral and product / strategy training materials.

Approved Product List & Risk Ratings

  • Reviewing requests to have new products delivered through OM originating from advisor teams (existing and transitioning teams).
  • Management of OM pricing updates / stale price reports, development and maintenance of the risk rating framework, security risk rating and approved products listing, book / security reviews for new / transitioning advisor teams, research provider assessment, oversight of performance reporting on managed accounts, etc.
  • Conducting book reviews (securities, risk ratings, etc.) for transitioning advisors to assess viability and ease of transfer of products.
  • Performing preliminary product screening against requirements and if appropriate, conduct due diligence for those products meeting initial requirements.
  • Supporting the SVP in designing and administering a robust private security risk rating framework and ensuring effective adherence and implementation of product risk ratings decisions.
  • Maintaining the approved product list, including additions and deletions of Private / OM products.
  • Engaging with Compliance to ensure risk ratings for products are correct and up to date.
  • Providing training and advice to Wellington-Altus advisors on product features, risk ratings and providing assessment and recommendations for security risk ratings.

Guided Portfolios & Performance Reporting

  • Supporting the VP in providing oversight, in conjunction with Compliance via the Portfolio Management Committee (PMC) and Product Committee (PC), for WAPW and WAPC Guided Portfolios.
  • Supporting advisors with respect to securities research and guided portfolios implementation, including assistance in guided portfolio selection and adoption.
  • Supporting the Product & Platforms team in managing advisor access to Guided Portfolio research and managing the distribution costs thereof; and
  • Establishing a framework and approval process for reviewing and approving performance reporting for managed accounts.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess :

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or similar field of study.
  • A minimum 4+ years relevant work experience in the financial services / investment industry.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst designation, or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.
  • Proficiency with the MSOffice suite, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Experience using Morningstar, Envestment, Bloomberg, and / or other investment performance databases is considered an asset.
  • Sound analytical and decision-making skills, with a demonstrated ability for critical thinking.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and communicate content on complex financial products and strategies.
  • A high attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • An ability to independently prioritize and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with willingness to learn.
  • Strong financial industry knowledge and product understanding.

Conditions of employment :

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to travel within Canada 0-5% of the time.
