Duties
In partnership, the Cities of Vaughan and Markham will be deploying mobility demonstration zones. These demonstration zones will provide an opportunity for companies that have technologies to demonstrate their solutions in living-labs that can improve the quality of life of local residents, while generating new economic opportunities.
The Associate, Demonstration Zone is a key member of the Economic Development team. The Demonstration Zone Associate is responsible for providing oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Demonstration Zones in Vaughan.
This position also has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Transportation Project Manager in Infrastructure Planning and Corporate Asset Management.
This position requires a high level of community and stakeholder engagement including frequent visits to demonstration sites in Vaughan and Markham.

- Coordinates day-to-day operations of the Vaughan Demonstration Zones.
- Initiates the development of strategic innovation challenges for each application call.
- Facilitates the Demonstration Zone application process, review and selection process, coordinating review of applications with internal stakeholders, external technical consultants, the project team and others as needed.
- Oversees timelines and deliverables, addressing risks and barriers to accomplish demonstration zone objectives.
- Liaises with both internal and external stakeholders to define project scopes and coordinate logistics for various demonstration projects.
Ensures ongoing communication is maintained among internal and external program stakeholders and regional partners.
- Supports, creates and disseminates communications materials for application process and marketing initiatives.
- Promotes the Demonstration Zone for businesses, stakeholders and visitors.
- Provides event logistics support to the economic development team, and attends events and activities as required.
- Oversees and supports documentation and reporting for Demonstration Zone.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
- University undergraduate degree in the field of business administration or suitable equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years of project management experience preferably in a municipal or Economic Development environment.
- Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute and / or considerable project management experience is considered an asset.
- High level of competency as a communicator.
- Additional desirable skills / experience : working knowledge of other languages, prior experience working for a municipality or other government agencies.
- Experience in planning, organizing, and conducting Communication and Engagement events.
- Experience in negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with levels of government, agencies, and jurisdiction over different aspect of transportation related regulations.
- Excellent time management, records management, interpersonal communication skills and ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and staff.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage projects successfully, from start to completion.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and foster internal and external relationships and work in partnership with City, business, labour, academic institutions, community agencies, and government.
Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills with a commitment and focus of customer service excellence.
- A valid Ontario G’ driver’s license, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, the City's core competencies and functional core competencies.
