The Opportunity
The "Broker Relationship Manager" origination model focuses on service, communication, fast, efficient credit adjudication and strong broker relationship building.
Candidates in this role are driven, self-starters who are focused on service, quality underwriting, communication and relationship management.
Core Responsibilities
Underwriting
- Responsible for underwriting to highest credit quality standards
- Negotiating, approving, recommending, and declining applications within RFA's Residential Underwriting Guidelines, including without limitation :
- Review of credit information
- Review of real estate appraisals for consistency, with prevailing market conditions
- Terms and conditions on all mortgage applications
- Review, Accept & Follow-up on outstanding conditions / documentation
- Preparing and issuing mortgage commitments
- Submitting applications for insurer approval, where applicable
- Determining and obtaining all relevant credit information such as proof of income, down payment, etc., and conducting appropriate due diligence
- Identifying and escalating instances of suspected fraud to Senior Management and Quality Assurance
- Ensuring that the highest levels of service are maintained in an environment of high volumes and the competing demands of customers and staff
- Working in alignment with corporate objectives and risk tolerances
Business Development :
- Maintaining an appropriate level of regular contact with the established broker portfolio to meet the needs of each specific broker office
- Planning, scheduling and conducting sales and product and policy presentations and regular follow-up communications with agents to strengthen existing relationships
- Providing support tools to assist brokers with their client relations (product information, pricing and ways to solidify deals)
- Maintaining direct contact with mortgage originators via updates specific to the application from fulfillment through to closing
- Performing daily account management activities
- Tracking and monitoring broker performance for improvement of efficiency (commitment to fund ratios, cancellation ratios)
Job Complexities
- Managing high volumes to meet short timelines with a high level of quality
- Evaluating real estate and associated risks in a volatile market
- Handling difficult interactions and / or scenarios related to deal / account management
- Building relationships with mortgage brokers and related business partners
- Keeping up-to-date with evolving policies and procedures
Customer / Stakeholder Interaction
Manage Customer Complaints according to RFA's Customer Complaint policy.
Financial Responsibilities
- Reviewing and approving mortgage applications within authorized credit limit
- Making heightened efforts to minimize financial losses during adjudication process.
What you can bring to RFA :
- Must have 5+ years previous residential mortgage underwriting experience.
- Undergraduate university degree is an asset.
- Detailed working knowledge of real estate and covenant assessments, legislation, and land title systems in all provinces
- Detailed working knowledge of principles of credit analysis and risk management
- Understanding of credit scoring
- Ability to understand financial statements and assess financial viability.
- Previous experience working with mortgage brokers or an external mortgage sale force.
- Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment
- An ability to handle pressure caused by high volumes and tight turnaround times.
- A very strong customer focus is required with an ability to ensure the customer experience is a positive one.
