Our organization is an integrated system of hospitals : Whitehorse General Hospital (58 beds), Watson Lake Community Hospital (6 beds) and Dawson City Community Hospital (6 beds).

Reporting to the Director Health System Transformation, the Communications & Transformation Lead is a senior consultant that develops, coordinates and supports business transformation as well as communications and engagement activities to support our team as it begins a journey of health system transformation.

The lead provides strategic planning, policy / process, analysis and communications advice; executes strategies and messages;

and coordinates decision documents, briefing notes, publications, events and other materials in order to involve our teams in transformation and keep our community, partners and people informed.

Knowledge and Skills required :

  • Excellent knowledge of communications and engagement strategies, methods and practices;
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures in hospital operations and / or health and social services program delivery;
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in First Nations governments and Yukon politics;
  • Outstanding communication (speaking, writing and presentation) skills;
  • Good analytical, problem solving and evidence-based, decision-making skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to built positive relationships, model appropriate behaviour and influence others to work effectively as a team;
  • Excellent engagement and facilitation skills;
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office ( Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), website content management systems and other relevant software;
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and time-management skills;
  • Ability to proficiently use and optimize communications and engagement through tools such as websites, social media and surveys;
  • Ability to mobilize knowledge, set goals and achieve desired outcomes in a way that supports an organization’s values and direction;
  • Ability to exercise tact, political astuteness and diplomacy when dealing with all of our people, partners and stakeholders;
  • Ability to be self-directed, take initiative, be assertive, and prioritize work demands;
  • Ability to deal with a variety of highly stressful situations;
  • Ability to think / work independently, be accountable, and operate with minimal direction;
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and reliability; and
  • Culture competence
  • The successful applicant will have Diploma or degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related fields such as Business Administration;

and a minimum of five (5) year’s related experience preferably in a hospital or health care setting. Completion of Yukon First Nations 101 or equivalent cultural competence education is preferred.
