Position Summary
Patient Intake Representative, Admitting & Pt Reg.
Your goal in this position is to perform all clerical activities required for the Registration, Booking and Check-In patients a confidential, sensitive and professional manner.

This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and / or transforming care through research and innovation.
This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Register patients in order to collect and document information required for use throughout the Hospital
- Chart retrieval and processing for discharged patients
- Ongoing updating of patient demographics as required
- Collection of payment for appliances and non-insured services
- Pre-registration and verification of patient data
- Triage telephone calls and inquiries and process them in an appropriate and timely manner
- Identify, highlight and prioritize surgical cases including booking of new cases
- Direct patients to waiting room area
- Notify team attendant of charts ready
- Assume responsibility for identification and advancement of issues and concerns with the Manager or Coordinator in a time sensitive manner
- Retrieve, compile and disseminate material / documents related to Program requirements
- Manage confidential information in a sensitive and professional manner
- Liaise with physician offices for weekly signoff and OR packages.
- Triage management of urgent surgical cases with the Clinical Coordinator / resource nurse
- Have working knowledge and experience with Cerner registration, Cerner scheduling, SBR, SurgiNet and Microsoft Word
- Unit supplies, services and repair needs communicated to Coordinator
- Communicate with staff, patients, families, internal and external parties
- Have accurate data entry and typing skills (minimum 40 w.p.m.)
- Have working knowledge and experience with Cerner registration, Cerner scheduling, Microsoft Word, and SurgiNet
- Have Medical terminology knowledge required
- Support and adhere to Hospital policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
- OSSD or equivalent
- Working knowledge and experience with Cerner registration and Cerner scheduling
- Experience with SBR and SurgiNet preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including; Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Minimum of one year experience in an office environment is an asset
- Completion of the Medical Assistant / Medical Terminology course
- Knowledge of WTIS and Cancer Care Ontario preferred.
- Previous experience as a unit secretary in the perioperative areas an asset
- Bilingualism in French / English an asset
