The Opportunity :
The Galt Museum & Archives is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of southwestern Alberta. We are seeking a multi-skilled, experienced heritage professional to join us and assist with the overall growth of the experiences at the Fort Whoop-Up site.
Our successful candidate is a team player with skills to work with a range of specialty museum staff and volunteers to accomplish our public service goals.
Wage : $35.32 per hour
Term : Permanent
Hours : 37.5 hours per week
Specific responsibilities will include :
- Assisting with development plans including programming, projects, interpretation, tours, exhibits, education and outreach
- Coordinating all aspects of off-season visitor activities including rentals, special events, curriculum student access, resource protection, safety, and non-routine maintenance
- Participating in the recruitment, interviews and selection of staff
- Assigning projects and supervises seasonal staff and volunteers, setting priorities, work schedules, and evaluating personnel
- Reporting of performance indicators such as evaluations, visitation and program numbers
- Building store inventory, maintaining stock, pricing, and sales
- Purchasing supplies, equipment and services for day-to-day operation of the site
- Ensuring that facilities, equipment and property is maintained
- Other related duties as required
We are looking for individuals with the following skills and abilities :
- A minimum of two years of post-secondary education in an applicable field
- Knowledge of regional history and experience in practices of historic interpretation and education
- Experience in leading people would be considered an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in point of sale (POS) systems
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new systems
