Position Summary
The Janitor/Pool Operator is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and proper operation of municipal aquatic facilities and surrounding areas. This role involves performing janitorial duties, conducting routine maintenance, and ensuring pool water quality meets health and safety standards. The Janitor/Pool Operator supports the safe operation of pools through regular inspections, equipment monitoring, and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing all areas of the facility, including change rooms, washrooms, lobbies, and pool decks.
- Operate and monitor pool filtration, circulation, and chemical dosing systems to ensure optimal water quality.
- Conduct regular water testing, including pH and chlorine levels, and adjust chemicals as required to maintain compliance with health regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to facility equipment, pool systems, and janitorial equipment.
- Ensure all safety and emergency equipment is functional and properly maintained.
- Respond to spills, accidents, and emergency clean-ups promptly to maintain a safe environment.
- Maintain accurate records of water quality tests, chemical usage, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Identify and report facility maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with the setup and takedown of equipment for programs, events, and activities as needed.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety protocols.
- Monitor supply levels and place orders as needed to ensure materials are consistently available for daily operations."

Position Requirements
Education & Certifications:
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or equivalent is required.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in custodial work, facility maintenance, or pool operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Pool Operations: Knowledge of pool filtration systems, water chemistry, and pool safety standards.
- Janitorial Expertise: Familiarity with cleaning techniques, equipment, and materials used in large public facilities.
- Health & Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, including chemical handling and pool safety regulations.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify facility issues and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in water testing, record-keeping, and maintaining cleanliness standards.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and working in humid environments.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills to manage routine tasks and respond to urgent maintenance needs effectively.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of mechanical systems related to pool operations and facility equipment.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed within an indoor aquatic facility.
- Work hours vary, with typical shifts scheduled during daytime hours. Some overtime hours depending on operational requirements.
- This role involves potential exposure to wet, humid conditions, pool chemicals, cleaning agents, and variable temperatures.
- Cognitive demands include sustaining focus and attention over long periods, often while performing repetitive tasks in varied environments.
- Physical demands include lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
