The Scrum Master will work with cross-functional teams led by GoA Product Owners to support agile delivery from discovery and user research through backlog development, sprint planning, execution, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will provide strong Agile leadership, remove delivery impediments, coach teams toward self-organization, and ensure consistent delivery of sprint commitments.

This role also requires hands-on AI fluency and process automation knowledge, including the practical use of generative AI, agentic tools, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), workflow automation, digital forms, structured intake, reporting, and process orchestration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor cross-functional teams in Agile principles, practices, policies, and procedures.

  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including:

    • Sprint planning

    • Daily stand-ups

    • Sprint reviews

    • Product demonstrations

    • Retrospectives

    • Backlog refinement

  • Coach Product Owners and delivery teams on effective Agile practices.

  • Support estimation, sprint commitments, release planning, roadmaps, and backlog prioritization.

  • Identify, track, and remove blockers, dependencies, risks, and impediments affecting delivery.

  • Promote team accountability, collaboration, transparency, and self-organization.

  • Act as an intermediary between Product Owners, delivery teams, stakeholders, and other project groups.

  • Maintain Agile delivery metrics such as sprint velocity, burndown charts, product backlogs, and sprint backlogs.

  • Monitor and communicate product-level plans, progress, quality, risks, and delivery status.

  • Support digital service delivery activities, including user research and usability testing.

  • Work across multiple projects and adapt delivery practices based on evolving business and user needs.

AI & Automation Responsibilities

  • Use generative AI and agentic tooling for delivery-focused activities such as:

    • Meeting preparation and synthesis

    • Documentation and reporting

    • Backlog analysis and support

    • Structured information retrieval

    • Communication

    • Workflow automation

  • Apply effective prompt design and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques.

  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, hallucination, privacy, security, sensitivity, and appropriateness.

  • Develop AI-augmented Agile routines that improve team productivity and reduce administrative work.

  • Understand process automation patterns, including workflow automation, digital forms, structured intake, status reporting, and agentic process orchestration.

  • Translate technical, AI, and automation-related changes into clear communication for Product Owners, business stakeholders, delivery teams, and staff.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification or equivalent active Scrum Master certification.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience coaching teams on Agile methodologies.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience facilitating Agile ceremonies, including planning, stand-ups, demonstrations, and retrospectives.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in an Agile software development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years delivering training through web-based platforms such as Microsoft Teams.

  • Experience coaching Agile teams toward accountability and self-organization.

  • Experience integrating AI tools into Agile/Scrum delivery practices.

  • 4+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability.

  • 1+ year of hands-on experience using AI tools to support Scrum Master responsibilities.

  • 5+ years of experience aligning sprint and delivery planning with Product Owner priorities.

  • 6+ years of experience with software development processes, methodologies, standards, tools, and best practices.

  • 4+ years of experience working in North American public-sector environments at municipal, provincial, or federal levels.

  • Experience working with UX, service design, design thinking, or human-centered design teams.

  • Experience with digital transformation, enterprise modernization, or public-sector digital service delivery.

  • Experience with process automation and workflow optimization.

Work Location

The position is primarily remote within Canada. The resource may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in Edmonton, Alberta, with up to 15% onsite attendance based on project requirements.

Travel, commuting, accommodation, meals, relocation, and other associated travel costs are the responsibility of the resource.

Working Hours

8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta Time, Monday through Friday, excluding Government of Alberta holidays.

All work must be performed from within Canada due to network and data-security requirements.

Background & Security Requirements
