Climbing Arborist (Foreman - Tree Care)

About the Role

As an Climbing Arborist, you'll lead and support your crew while completing tree removal and abatement work. You'll help plan each job, communicate work plans to your team, and take responsibility for safety and quality on site.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend your days working alongside your crew, operating equipment, managing site activities, and ensuring work is completed safely and professionally.

Certified Faller or Faller Endorsement is required.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead, train, and support your crew on job sites
  • Safely complete tree removal and abatement work as assigned
  • Plan jobs and communicate work plans to the crew before starting
  • Safely operate aerial lifts, chippers, chainsaws, ropes, and rigging equipment
  • Climb using both spurred and spur-less techniques
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use
  • Maintain equipment, including sharpening, greasing, and oiling as required
  • Lead daily safety talks and complete required safety documentation
  • Ensure appropriate PPE and safe work practices are followed
  • Learn and perform emergency procedures and protocols, including boom operations
  • Complete crew timecards and other required documentation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site
  • Represent Horizon professionally and provide exceptional customer service
  • Be courteous and respectful to clients, coworkers, and the public


What You Bring

Certifications & Education

  • Certified Faller or Faller Endorsement required
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence; Air Brake endorsement is an asset
  • Traffic Control Person Certification is an asset
  • Secondary school completion is an asset
  • Post-secondary education in horticulture, arboriculture, or a related field is an asset
  • ISA Arborist, TRAQ, or Utility Arborist Certification is an asset


Experience

  • 1+ year of supervisory or crew leadership experience
  • Experience with tree removal and abatement
  • Experience climbing both spurred and spur-less
  • Experience with ropes and rigging
  • Comfortable operating aerial lift trucks and chippers
  • Experience maintaining tools and equipment
  • Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Experience working in a physical, fast-paced, safety-focused environment


Skills

  • Comfortable giving and receiving direction

Physical & Work Environment

This is a 100% field-based role requiring physical work, including lifting 50+ lbs, bending, crouching, twisting, climbing, and standing or walking for extended periods.


You'll work outdoors in changing weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, and snow.


Compensation & Benefits

  • $45–$50/hour, based on experience and qualifications
