The Opportunity
MatchBox Consulting Group is partnering with our client, a leading engineering consulting firm serving the electrical utility sector, to hire a Team Lead – Distribution Engineer (Overhead Design). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced utility engineer looking to combine technical expertise with leadership responsibilities while delivering overhead distribution projects for major utility clients across British Columbia.
In this role, you will lead engineering design activities, mentor junior staff, oversee project delivery, and act as the Engineer of Record on a variety of overhead distribution projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering design and delivery of overhead distribution projects ranging from 4kV to 35kV.
- Prepare and review engineering designs, calculations, drawings, estimates, and technical documentation.
- Perform or oversee pole line design, equipment replacements and upgrades, load flow analysis, and protection coordination.
- Utilize CAD software and engineering design tools to develop high-quality deliverables.
- Act as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for assigned projects.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, utilities, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Review technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by developing and enhancing engineering processes.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to engineers and designers.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of team members.
- Support project planning, resource coordination, client communication, and business development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or a related Engineering discipline.
- Registered P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- 5+ years of engineering and design experience within the electrical utility distribution industry.
- Strong experience leading overhead distribution design projects.
- Strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems, utility standards, and engineering best practices.
- Experience with SPIDAcalc (or equivalent pole line analysis software) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with CYME or equivalent power system analysis software is considered an asset.
- Experience with BC Hydro standards and design systems is strongly preferred.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (if residing in BC).

- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
