Reporting to the Chief Accountant, the Payroll Supervisor is responsible for reviewing both hourly and salaried payroll processes to ensure accuracy and compliance. This role supports month-end activities, including the preparation of accruals and payroll-related journal entries, and ensures payroll systems are utilized efficiently and effectively. The Payroll Supervisor also oversees a small team of payroll staff, providing guidance, support, and performance oversight. They will based onsite from the Rouyn-Noranda office and will also oversee the Payroll team in Dubreuilville, ON. Quarterly travel to Dubreuilville is expected and will be arranged by the organization.
The Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Review and, when required, prepare hourly and salaried payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance
Serve as a subject matter resource for payroll-related inquiries and issues
Perform year-end payroll processes, including preparation of tax slips, reconciliation of accrued balances (e.g., vacation), and readiness for the new fiscal year
Prepare payroll-related general ledger entries, accruals, and perform account reconciliations as part of month-end close
Support internal and external audits by responding to inquiries and providing required payroll documentation and samples
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to payroll systems, ensuring optimal system usage
Lead and support a small team of payroll staff, ensuring timely and accurate completion of payroll activities
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in payroll processing
