Work at CBC/Radio-Canada

At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Unposting Date:

Are you an energetic, disciplined and creative journalist? CBC Windsor has an opportunity for you to join the team as a multi-platform producer. In this role, you’ll be a key leader in the newsroom in the afternoon and into the evening, contributing to the successful operations of storytelling on digital, radio, television and social platforms.

Reporting to the executive producer, the multiplatform producer is part of a team making assignment choices in the afternoon evening. You are responsible for guiding editorial choices around breaking, live and on-demand stories in the evening and the following morning. responsible for helping to make assignment decisions that affect the later part of the day and impact stories destined for late and morning rollouts. Your work is critical to setting the agenda for the next day, which is why you are a news junkie and you have experience working in daily news. You’re willing to roll up your sleeves when needed, and to act as a guide with decisions that are data-driven and rooted in telling stories that matter to people in Windsor and beyond.

In this role, you’ll be working directly with reporters, and so you understand how to help them deliver their stories across platforms. You care deeply about how the audience consumes news, and the types of stories that resonate in their lives. You will ensure that our decision making is story-centric - that is, making decisions and deploying resources to meet audience needs rather than program needs first. You understand that the media landscape is changing, and you like to experiment with new storytelling formats to drive audience engagement. You know the questions to ask at a story meeting to both challenge and encourage enterprise reporting, and when breaking news happens, you are at your best facilitating a quick response.

The successful candidate will help to oversee the station’s newsgathering resources enabling the Windsor team to be responsive and live. Organizational skills, and an innate desire to track stories to the end, are key qualities for the person in this position. You generate story ideas by maintaining strong follow files, contact lists, and you’re always looking for opportunities for the team to actively engage with the community.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable in a mentorship role, and can also work with the most experienced people to create compelling content. You must believe in building an inclusive newsroom because you understand how that shapes content. The role of the public broadcasters is clear to you, and drives your own desire to share local Windsor stories with the rest of Canada.

This role is full-time, and requires on-site presence.

As required, you will perform the following tasks:

● Conceive and develop story ideas and concepts across platforms.

●Make assignment decisions about story priorities and rollouts to day-part across the afternoon and next-day

● Allocate resources and assign afternoon staff, as well as provide editorial oversight to ensure our content is original, relevant and impactful, and meets our journalistic standards.

● Participate in the preparation and execution of stories including late-day assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing.

● Create and curate lineups for digital and streaming platforms

● Plan and support the Windsor team in content creation, curation and distribution.

● Coordinate resources and coverage plans for daily content creation as well as special projects, series and remote broadcasts.

● Coordinate with other CBC Newsrooms on breaking news or enterprise story assignments.

● Provide regular feedback and coaching to experienced and developing journalists.

● Develop and maintain community contacts with newsmakers, organizations and community groups to inform editorial decisions.

● Maintain and update assignment planning tools.

● Monitor and track relevant data to inform editorial decisions.

Your profile:

● Excellent communication skills and proven leadership ability.

● Critical thinker with strong analytical skills, including knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices, as well as legal and ethical issues related to journalism.

● Proven journalistic track record working across digital platforms in a fast-paced daily multiplatform news environment.

● Able to generate original material while working with a team.

● Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fast-moving information and quickly redirect resources to meet priorities

● Advanced knowledge of broadcast and digital platforms and tools

● Knowledge of the social, political and cultural life of Windsor-Essex County, including underserved communities and equity-seeking groups.

● Highly creative, organized and resourceful.

● Proven experience coaching teams to success.

● Desire to stay up to date on industry trends and to experiment with distribution.

● Ability and willingness to work flexible hours.

● University degree or equivalent with five years of experience

● Must possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets

the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company, other

classes considered an asset.
