The Interprofessional Development team is rich in skills and knowledge, diverse in roles and outcomes, and consistently involved in education, evaluation, research and innovation initiatives. We rally together around common goals in line with HHS’ vision, mission and strategic priorities. Relationships and work touch all clinical areas of HHS, and our networks are extensive both internally and externally. McMaster University and Mohawk College are significant collaborators in our daily work. The Interprofessional Development team is positioned within the Nursing Practice, Education and Community Health portfolio and supports HHS staff and learners with their education, professional development and practice needs. Services provided include staff education and development; learner placements; libraries, Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) programs and Ministry Health Human Resource initiatives.
Position Summary
The Education Clinician is assigned to support the MCH Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team (PCCTT) and the Pediatric Assessment of Critical Event Team (PACE). This role will be responsible for promoting competency-based practice for the RNs and RRTs on the MCH PCCTT, and PACE Teams, through staff education and professional development which is reflective of current evidence and the professional standards outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and Canadian Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
A key outcome of this Education Clinician role is the empowerment of Transport and PACE clinicians to practice to their full scope of practice through orientation, continuing education offerings, coaching, and role-modeling. The education clinician will work in collaboration with the Clinical Practice and Education team, and the Transport/PACE leadership team to support the vision and strategic plan for educational and professional development. Educator’s responsibilities and accountabilities are directly aligned with build and sustaining staff competency within the PACE and Transport clinicians.
As a member of the health care team, the Education Clinician, teaches, plans, develops, implements and evaluates education and development programs to enhance clinical proficiency, quality improvement and team skills. Facilitates and expedites continuous learning and professional development through coaching and/or mentoring of staff and clients. Facilitates appropriate coordination of resources to meet identified education and development needs. The Education Clinician is a part of a corporate education resource team also supporting central education programs and be able to work at all sites at HHS.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
·Collaborate with the Clinical Practice & Education team, specifically the PICU and RRT Clinical Educators and Charge RRT, and the Transport/PACE leadership team to implement the vision and strategic plan for nursing and respiratory therapist education and professional development.
·Develop learning material and educate Transport and PACE team members on care of the critical care patient and partner with leadership to support staff in maintaining required certifications.
·Act as a clinical resource for clinicians and interdisciplinary team members, providing appropriate support and direction to staff for maintaining their continued competencies.
·Create informal and formal opportunities for learners to develop their critical thinking and critical reasoning skills.
·Provide feedback to PACE and transport team members.
·Show enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing and RRT professional practice that inspires and motivates learners.
·Collaborate with the leadership teams and network with others to effectively promote, plan, implement and evaluate best practices based on transport/rapid response team standards as subject matter experts only.
·Commit to respond in a timely manner to staff requests for ongoing clinical education support.
·Work collaboratively with the leadership team(s), to prepare in-services and provide updates for any new clinical equipment required by the teams.
·Develop targeted training, interventions, education materials, and programs to address specific safety concerns and promote best practices.
·Liaise with other provincial transport/rapid response educators to help facilitate knowledge transfer and exchange related to new initiatives.
·The Education Clinician will act as a subject matter advisor. The Education Clinician provides valuable input with policy, procedure, and authorizing mechanisms. The Education Clinician will help translate policy, procedure and authorizing mechanisms into practice. The Education Clinician will provide the opportunity for staff to maintain certifications and avoid duplication of work by having standardized classes.

Qualifications
Qualifications - External
1.Baccalaureate degree in nursing, master’s preferred
2.Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
3.Pediatric Critical Care Certificate or equivalent
4.Minimum 3 years of recent (within the last 2 years) experience in pediatric critical care
5.Recent (within the last 2 years) experience in pediatric critical care transport is preferred
6.Recent (within the last 2 years) experience in pediatric rapid response team preferred
7.Minimum 1 year recent experience delivering clinical education to adult learners within the last 2 years
8.Demonstrated experience as a preceptor of staff and/or students
9.Demonstrated proficiency in the mentoring and development of staff
10.Demonstrated experience in evaluation of learning activities specific to individual, team and organizational performance
11.Evidence of ability to develop, conduct and evaluate educational programs to learners from a variety of health care disciplines
12.Demonstrated competencies in team building, organizational skills, leadership and presenting/managing change in a positive manner
13.Demonstrated ability to deal efficiently and effectively with conflicting demands in a fast paced, complex environment
14.Demonstrated strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
15.Evidence of continuous commitment to ongoing education
16.Formal Simulation training or certification from a recognized organization (e.g. Simulation Canada) preferred
17.Demonstrated experience in development of simulation scenarios, debriefing techniques, and the use of simulation technology (e.g. patient simulators)
18.Current BLS certification
19.Current PALS certification, Instructor preferred
20.Current NRP certification or a commitment to successful complete within 12 months of hire
