The Quesnel School District #28 is currently seeking Teachers Teaching On Call (TTOC) candidates or Non-Certified Teachers Teaching On Call (individuals with a degree, but not necessarily a Bachelor's Degree in Education) candidates.
While the amount of work available for TTOCs is subject to fluctuation, TTOCs in Quesnel tend to work between 3-5 days every week. When posting teaching jobs during the school year, the district always considers internal candidates on the TTOC list before external candidates. The starting daily wage for a TTOC who a Category 5 teacher with 0 years of experience is $355.36 / day.
Non-Certified Teachers Teaching On Call would not be dispatched until all certified Teachers Teaching On Call are dispatched. The district experiences TTOC shortages on a daily basis.
The City of Quesnel is located 125 kilometers to the south of Prince George on the traditional territory of the Lhtako Dene Nation. The population of Quesnel and the surrounding area is approximately 25,000. Housing prices are reasonable with nice houses on large city lots starting at $354,656. In addition to retail outlets, Quesnel has an airport with service to Vancouver as well as a hospital.
The area has a number of outdoor activities such as both downhill and cross-country skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking and a nine-kilometer walking trail in the city around the Fraser River. There are a number of organized sports and cultural organizations. In addition to two arenas, a recreation centre, and a curling rink, Quesnel has an indoor soccer facility that is used year-round.
The School District serves about 3000 students with one grade 10-12 secondary school, a grade 8-9 junior school, a secondary alternate school and 12 elementary schools. The district has a K-12 French Immersion program, an Aboriginal Education Department and a Learning Services Department that support the primary district focuses of literacy, Aboriginal education, and support for students with learning challenges.
The starting annual salary for this full-time Teachers Teaching on Call position ranges from $61,175 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. We also offer a competitive benefits package and pension.
Teachers who have continuing contract status are eligible for tuition reimbursement should they pursue a Masters degree or category 5+15 course work.
