Job description

Join to apply for the AVP, Quantitative Risk role at Aviva Canada .

Experience Aviva : Individually we are people, but together we are Aviva. These are our values – Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence.

At Aviva Canada, we put people first – our employees, our customers, and our communities. We’re proud of a culture built on care, inclusion, and collaboration, where your voice matters and your growth is supported. We’re not just about insurance; we’re about making a real difference by protecting what matters most.

The Opportunity

The AVP, Quantitative Risk supports the VP, Quantitative Risk through reviewing, challenging and catalyzing improvements to the management of risk within Aviva Canada.

The Quantitative Risk team is part of the Risk Function that is responsible for embedding a robust Risk Management Framework with Aviva Canada and providing leaders with risk’s independent insight, challenge and opinion on key business decisions and the aggregate risk profile. The team provides specialist technical insights and analysis, focusing on financial, insurance and model risks. In collaboration with the other risk teams, it supports the CRO in ensuring that Aviva Canada operates within the approved risk appetite framework and that the appropriate culture, governance, and oversight arrangements are in place to effectively manage the risks to achieve Aviva Canada’s objectives. The team is also responsible for the independent validation of the economic capital model in collaboration with the Group Model Validation Center of Excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with VP, Quantitative Risk and AVP Model Risk to assist in the effective management of key risks and embedding of risk culture in relation to financial, insurance and model risks.
  • Deliver expert guidance on financial risk and capital oversight by reviewing and challenging reports, proposals, models, management information, and analyses prepared by the first line of defense; assess broker investment and partnership proposals and evaluate financial risk management controls.
  • Offer specialist insight into independent validation of material models and economic capital models.
  • Support local or global initiatives from a risk perspective.
  • Review and challenge the Risk and Control Self Assessments for financial risks and IMIV.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Risk Management Framework and the application of the Own Risk Self‑Assessment process in respect of financial risks and surety.
  • Support the identification and assessment of emerging risks and assist business leaders in managing and mitigating emerging exposures.

Leadership

  • Help craft enterprise risk management debate and action through proactively engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Work with colleagues across the business to share risk knowledge and expertise that supports business needs, developing an environment of "no surprises" through open and transparent communication.
  • Represent the risk team on management committees.
  • What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent.
  • Actuarial Fellowship designation.
  • 10+ years of experience in the property / casualty insurance industry.
  • Strong actuarial background and experience with complex actuarial models.
  • Expertise in financial or capital modeling.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, report writing, and relationship‑building skills.
  • What You’ll Get

  • Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Hybrid flexible work model.
  • Outstanding career development opportunities.
  • Support for professional development education.
  • Competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per year.
  • Employee‑driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Corporate wellness programs to support employees’ physical and mental health.
  • This job advertisement is for an existing vacancy posted both internally and externally.
