Your role – Solution Architect:
As the Solution Architect within the Laboratory Applications Center of Excellence, you’ll be responsible for designing and guiding the evolution of tailored application solutions that align with Metro’s strategic goals. You will collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure robust, scalable, and integrated systems.
Your mission: implement a cohesive, high-performance application architecture that supports Metro’s digital transformation and the needs of its pharmacy operations.
Key responsibilities:
-
Lead the technical architecture, design, development, testing, and deployment of custom-built applications
-
Act as a technical reference—and mentor when needed—for analysts, developers, and other IT centers of excellence
-
Participate in the full lifecycle of development initiatives, from requirements to user acceptance testing and post-go-live support
-
Coordinate quality assurance efforts, including test plans, guidance to team members, and documentation validation
-
Ensure proper integration between multiple internal and external application solutions
-
Stay ahead of emerging architecture trends and apply best practices to optimize application development
-
Maintain updated documentation on the evolution of custom applications and software packages
-
Contribute to deployment strategy and implementation planning
-
Drive process reengineering and improve development methodologies and procedures
-
Produce high-level architecture documentation required by the Center of Excellence
-
Support data and process harmonization across systems, following existing standards, policies, and guidelines
-
Build strong relationships with development leaders, infrastructure teams, business users, and external consultants
What we’re looking for:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
-
10+ years of experience in enterprise-level application design, analysis, and development
-
Strong knowledge of database technologies (DB2, SQL, etc.)
-
Expertise in modern UI frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, Blazor, etc.)
-
Deep understanding of secure coding practices and application security standards
-
Proven experience in designing APIs (REST, etc.)
-
Familiarity with continuous integration tools
-
Experience with IBMi – a strong asset
-
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical domain – an asset
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
-
Bilingualism (French and English) required – you will interact with English-speaking external vendors and partners
-
Willingness to travel occasionally to various Metro sites (Varennes, Terrebonne, Montreal, Ontario)
