Job description3-5 years of experience working in the insurance industry. Post-secondary education, working towards CIP designation. Exemplary analytical skills and and the ability to make informed decisions. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence decisions and negotiate strategically. Analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to determine how to grow business profitability through assessment and analysis of individual risks. Excellent math and statistics skills. The ability to work with customers from a range of backgrounds.

Heartland Mutual Insurance has an excellent opportunity in our Underwriting Department for a Personal Lines Underwriter II.
Personal Lines Underwriter II – Waterloo, Ontario
What you will do…
- Underwrite and negotiate medium complexity renewals, policy endorsements, and new business.
- Gather background information on potential customers and analyse all relevant data to determine risk levels.
- Prepare terms and conditions of insurance policies.
- Underwriting portfolio management, working within the company operational plan to understand and apply underwriting philosophy to write a profitable book of business.
- Provide exemplary customer experience and manage the development of internal and external stakeholders.
- Negotiate terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers.
- Ensure day-to-day underwriting practices confirm to all necessary regulatory obligations.
- Product and pricing management, understanding and implementing company marketing strategies; assist management in development of products, pricing, and services.
- Identify and communicate trends to management.
- Participate in, or provide, training and development initiatives.
