Well-rounded Assistant Controller role spanning operational accounting and corporate accounting. Hands-on position while also providing leadership and oversight.

Our client is a growth-focused company in the industrial natural resources space (broadly speaking, in mining, oil & gas, or forestry). What- the Role:

This is a unique opportunity for a well-rounded senior-level accounting professional. Reporting into a senior leader who is a designated CPA. We can provide interested & qualified candidates with a full job description.

  • Lead and support the accounting & finance team across accounting, payroll, accounts payables, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions.
  • Coordinate month-end and quarter-end processes, including reconciliations, working papers, cost reporting, and stakeholder reporting requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with accounting & finance team at head office.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, financial procedures, and organizational policies while supporting audit and corporate information requests.
  • Provide financial analysis, process improvement ideas, and operational support related to costing, capital projects, fixed assets, transaction processes, and ERP system administration.
  • Support team development through training, mentorship, and cross-functional knowledge sharing.

Who- the Candidate:

  • Already residing in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region of BC, or able to fully relocate to the area within maximum 4 weeks’ of offer.
  • CPA designation is required
  • At least 5 years and more likely 10+ years of progressive and relevant accounting work experience.
  • Blend of public practice and industry experience is preferred, but also open to candidates directly from public practice (at Senior Associate or Manager level) or directly from industry.
  • Experience in natural resources sector- oil & gas, mining, forestry, etc.
  • Steady tenures demonstrating loyalty and stability during career path. This company treats their people well and employees tend to stay a very long time!
  • Experience using a sophisticated accounting software or ERPs
  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable, hard working, professional, and self-motivated!

How Much:

The salary for this role is commensurate with level and relevance of accounting experience and qualifications, and will range from $110,000 to $140,000 (please note to get to the top end, must have all nice-to-have qualifications and over 10 years of relevant experience)
Additionally, the Assistant Controller will be eligible for:

  • Annual performance bonus
  • 9-day fortnight (earning a bonus day off every 2nd week based on a slightly longer workday the other 9 days of the week)

Where:

Based in the Cariboo region of BC. Good location for someone living in Williams Lake, Soda Lake, Quesnel, McLeese Lake, 150 Mile House, etc. Our client is open to providing some financial relocation assistance to a finalist who lives elsewhere in BC or Alberta and is very serious about making a long-term full move to Cariboo. Full-time on-site, with a 9-day fortnight.
