We have partnered with Dynacare in their search for a dynamic Manager of Laboratory Operations to lead and manage the Core laboratory and specimen processing departments, ensuring efficient operations, technical excellence, and outstanding team performance. Dynacare is the leading provider of comprehensive health and wellness solutions in Canada. Their mission is to enhance the health and well-being of communities through accurate and timely diagnostic information. Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Manager of Laboratory Operations will oversee a team of approximately 20 employees in a dynamic diagnostic environment, focusing on science-based deadlines and operational precision.

As the Manager, Laboratory Operations, you will oversee the efficient and effective daily operation of the department, ensuring both administrative and technical excellence. You will be accountable for the scientific and technical performance of the laboratory, maintaining appropriate methodologies, equipment, and quality control standards. This includes reviewing proficiency tests, addressing incomplete or complex cases, and ensuring that abnormal or STAT results are managed according to established guidelines. You will develop, implement, and communicate departmental policies, procedures, and manuals while supporting staff in their interpretation and application. In this role, you will manage departmental budgeting and resource utilization, monitor inventory, and ensure timely ordering and controls. You will lead all staffing activities, including recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management, and safety instruction, while fostering ongoing staff development. Additionally, you will oversee attendance and payroll submissions, monitor compliance and report requirements, and ensure the accuracy of departmental statistics. The position requires regular interaction and coordination with internal leadership and staff, as well as external stakeholders such as patients, physicians, government officials, and community partners. You will supervise a diverse team—including Lab Assistants, Clinical Laboratory Assistants, Medical Laboratory Technologists, and related roles, ensuring high-quality service and operational continuity across all operations.

  • 7–10 years of progressive managerial experience in a clinical laboratory environment
  • Must be a Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with the BCSLS
  • Meet one of the following equivalent qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline with a minimum of four years of post-graduate laboratory training or experience
  • Experienced and adaptable laboratory leader with strong technical expertise and sound judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate teams and navigate complex or high-pressure clinical environments
  • Maintains high operational standards while balancing multiple priorities
  • Exceptional communication skills with a strong commitment to quality and patient safety
  • Proven ability to guide staff, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure adherence to regulatory and safety requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead departments and manage multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations
  • Proven success managing shifting priorities, deadlines, and operational demands
What would make you stand out:
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing laboratory teams in a clinical or regulated environment.
  • Extensive experience managing budgets, resources, and operational workflows to optimize efficiency and service quality.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and implementing laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and mentor staff effectively.
