Job description

Potentia Human Resources is proud to partner with Mario’s Towing Ltd. to recruit a Vice President of Operations, a newly created leadership role designed to strengthen the operational management of one of British Columbia’s most respected and innovative towing companies. Reporting to and working closely with the General Manager, the Vice President of Operations will serve as a key operational leader and trusted partner in running the day-to-day business. This role will oversee operations across multiple locations, ensure regulatory and legal compliance, and translate strategic priorities into operational execution. The VP Operations will play a critical role in ensuring the company continues to operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with its values as it grows.

This role is particularly well suited to a senior operational leader with strong regulatory, compliance, or legal experience, including lawyers or legally trained professionals interested in applying their expertise in a senior operational leadership role. As the successful candidate, you will also be involved in supporting their associated company, Ram Environmental Response Ltd., in alignment with operational needs. Travel to remote branch locations may be required; primarily day trips.

Mario’s Towing is renowned for its commitment to environmental stewardship, customer service, and operational innovation. From pioneering Canada’s first hybrid deck tow truck to maintaining a 24/7/365 dispatch system and a fleet of more than 100 trucks, Mario’s combines technical excellence, sustainability, and exceptional service to set the standard in the towing industry.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced operations leader who enjoys taking ownership of complex operations, leading teams, and working closely with executive leadership to drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple locations, ensuring service excellence, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Implement operational processes, systems, and standards that support scalability and consistent performance.
  • Monitor operational metrics and performance to drive continuous improvement and operational growth.
  • Support and guide branch managers and operational teams to ensure alignment with company standards and objectives.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure operations comply with employment legislation, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Provide guidance on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters impacting operational decisions.
  • Identify and manage operational risks while promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and external advisors to address legal, compliance, and operational risks.

Strategic Partnership & Leadership

  • Act as a trusted operational partner to the General Manager and CFO.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and growth initiatives, translating strategy into operational execution.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture across operational teams and locations.

Customer Service & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain the company’s reputation for exceptional customer service.
  • Encourage innovative solutions and continuous improvement in operational practices.

Requirements

You are an experienced operational leader who thrives in fast-moving environments where judgment, accountability, and problem-solving are essential. You bring a strong understanding of compliance, risk management, and regulatory frameworks, and are comfortable applying that knowledge in a practical operational setting.

You bring:

  • Significant experience in operational leadership, ideally in transportation, logistics, construction, emergency services, or similarly complex operational environments.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, employment legislation, and operational risk management.
  • Legal training or experience is a strong asset (e.g., lawyer or senior professional with significant exposure to regulatory and legal matters).
  • Strong judgment, autonomy, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and team leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel to multiple branch locations and support operational initiatives across sites.
  • A collaborative, high-trust approach to working alongside senior leadership.

Mario’s Towing anticipates offering a base salary in the range of $150,000–$170,000, plus an $800 per month vehicle allowance. Benefits include RRSP matching, health coverage, and the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of an innovative and values-driven organization.

Recruitment Process

  • Initial video interview with Potentia Human Resources
  • Interviews with General Manager and CFO (and potentially Potentia HR)
  • Reference and background checks and offer of employment

If you are a senior operational leader energized by the opportunity to take ownership, strengthen operations, and support a growing and innovative organization, we are looking forward to hearing from you.
