These projects involve the installation, alteration, extension, and repair of various electrical and civil equipment, which are controlled, monitored, and automated by complex circuitry, electronics, and advanced communication networks.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, create, modify, or review civil and electrical designs, including cable chamber/vaults, equipment layouts, mechanical drawings, and crossings such as highways, train tracks, and bridges.
  • Complete drawings in accordance with Subsurface Utility Engineering Standards using Microstation.
  • Review and calculate invert data for congested civil subsurface utility design to generate accurate profiles and cross-sections.
  • Read, understand, and interpret various types of underground civil utility drawings.
  • Perform initial quality control of field deliverables, ensuring they meet standards and best practices.
  • Communicate directly with field staff to clarify any questions or required information within documents received from the field.
  • Organize and review all field documents and files for completeness.
  • Ensure that utility record drawings are collected, complete, and thoroughly reviewed, including those provided by the client.
  • Understand and correlate between utility records, construction plans, and field documents to document the presence of underground and/or aerial utilities.
  • Work through and complete various deliverables and supporting documents, including drawings, reports, and traffic control plans.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical design, specifically in overhead and underground distribution.
  • Proficiency in Microstation or AutoCAD, with a preference for Microstation.
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting Toronto Hydro utility projects.
  • Willingness to travel to site 10% of the time.
  • Experience with pole loading analysis, voltage drop calculations, and cable pulling calculations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 4+ years of civil design experience with underground distribution lines.
  • Design and drafting experience with knowledge of municipal consent requirements.
  • Experience working in a utility environment, particularly in civil design.
  • Drafting knowledge, especially two-dimensional drafting.
  • Ambition to learn and adapt between civil and electrical design disciplines.
  • Experience with design build contractors and SpidaCalc is an asset.
  • AutoCAD expertise is an asset and can be considered in lieu of Microstation experience.
Work Environment
