Posting Information Posting Number CK53992P Position Title Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor No. of Staff Required 1 Position Type FT If Term position, enter length of Term in months n / a Position Groups Management and Exempt Division Infrastructure (DV220) Department Wastewater Collection Operations (DP194) Department Name Wastewater Treatment Branch Wastewater Treatment (BR195) Organizational Information Purpose of your Position - Non Union The Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the management and supervision for mechanical and electrical / instrumentation work and asset management for the City’s utilities. Under the direction of the Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor working with the other Utility Supervisors is responsible for ensuring the city utility assets are reliable and sustainable supporting operational needs. Classification Summary - Union Duties - Union Results and Activities - Non union 1. Management and Supervision of mechanical, electrical and SCADA system life cycle management (acquisition through renewal) activities for City utilities and supported departments :

  • Support operations to ensure that utility mechanical and electrical systems reliably operate at maximum efficiency supporting operations to achieve their operational goals and mandated requirements,
  • Ensure the provision of appropriate level of staffing, alarm, and emergency response 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
  • Ensure that the timing of mechanical, electrical / instrumentation maintenance and renewal work is performed to maximize efficiency and minimize the impact on operations.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the Utilities Asset Registry for mechanical and electrical systems including the asset hierarchy, asset condition rating, asset criticality and risk assessment for the asset life cycle maintenance and renewal plan.

2. Planning for Sustainable Operations :

  • Work collaboratively with Operations Supervisor to plan, advise, manage and complete facility / system repairs and upgrades for improved efficiency and reduced risk of failure.
  • Develop, implement and maintain preventative maintenance management practices for all mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Work with other departments to advise on capital and development driven projects.
  • Manage assets and inventory, develop maintenance contracts where required, supervise contractors and ensure their performance meets contract guidelines and there is no interference with operations
  • 3. Risk Management :

  • Work collaboratively within the service area to review and update emergency response plan, safety manual, standard operating procedures; ensure compliance with safe work procedures and ensure emergency preparedness and that all maintenance programs meet established service levels and operational requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure certifications for all trades staff is maintained and updated as specified by, Provincial Ministries, Electrical Authority and WorkSafe BC.
  • Ensure that facilities / systems have the appropriate level of redundancy or backup to ensure that the city’s prescribed level of service is maintained.
  • Attend and support Safety Meetings and site safety inspections are held regularly, that issues raised at Safety Meetings are handled appropriately, and that staff receive the appropriate safe work practice training.
  • 4. Facility / System Optimization / Sustainability :

  • Evaluate, recommend, implement and maintain policies, procedures, data collection / analysis and budgets to ensure that mechanical and electrical systems life cycle needs are supported to ensure operational reliability and sustainability.
  • Assess the ability of the existing equipment, facilities / systems to meet operational needs to develop a life cycle approach to asset maintenance and renewal while balancing operational and financial requirements of the system
  • Review analytical data to determine process equipment strengths and weaknesses; advise engineering staff on needs.
  • Schedule and manage projects to be undertaken by Maintenance staff & contractors.
  • Work with the asset management team to maintain, develop and implement a sustainable asset management plan for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • 5. Manage budget :

  • Operating budget : Approximately $2,500,000

  • Capital budget : Varies. Usually less than $500,000

  • Who has final spending authority : Maintenance Supervisor ($10,000) / Manager depending on value.

  • Develop staff to ensure a sustainable organization that continues to meet all regulatory requirements. Credentials - Union Knowledge - Non Union The successful candidate will have a Millwright Red Seal Certification or Electrical Red Seal Certification or an equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and skills along with a minimum of 5 years’ direct experience leading maintenance teams and planning maintenance related activities. They will possess a unique blend of technical and mechanical skills with the ability to lead and manage a group of skilled tradespeople. This position will collaborate with the Operating group to ensure maintenance activities are carried out effectively while maintaining operating production.     Additional Hiring Information The annual salary for this position ranges from $102,000 to $119,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Most candidates can expect to start in the lower to mid-range of this scale, with opportunities for salary growth based on performance and tenure.
