Overview

About The Role The Contracts Manager provides commercial and contractual leadership across complex, high-risk, and high-value construction projects. The role is responsible for developing and implementing contract and procurement strategies, managing the full contract lifecycle from pre-award through close-out, managing subcontracts, maintaining supplier relationships, and ensuring commercial, contractual, and financial objectives are achieved.

Essential Functions

  • Create innovative agreements that bring added value to our business
  • Provide commercial leadership across construction projects, contribute to the development of contract and procurement strategies and lead the negotiation, administration, and delivery of complex, high-risk, and high-value contracts
  • Establish and implement Commercial and Contract Management plans to ensure commercial objectives, contractual obligations, and project outcomes are achieved
  • Develop robust commercial controls, reporting frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies, escalating key commercial risks and opportunities to senior management
  • Oversee all commercial, contractual, and financial aspects of assigned construction contracts, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions
  • Work closely with internal and external project teams to align commercial outcomes with construction programs and minimize cost, schedule, and delivery impacts
  • Lead stakeholder engagement to ensure contractual compliance and effective commercial governance
  • Review and approve contract variations, claims, and change events, assessing cost, time, and risk impacts
  • Managing the contract from pre-award to close-out; ensure alignment between commercial, legal, and technical documents; maintain accurate contract records and audit trails
  • Oversee invoice certification, payment processes, contract close-out, and final account settlement
  • Lead contractor and supplier commercial performance management, including monitoring cost, schedule, quality, and contractual performance
  • Chair or participate in commercial and progress review meetings and drive corrective actions to ensure contractual compliance and value for money
  • Develop and maintain commercial management frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with organizational requirements and audit standards
  • Lead claim avoidance, dispute resolution, and commercial risk mitigation strategies, including the preparation and review of contractual correspondence and formal notices
  • Provide leadership and direction to commercial and contract administration teams, including workforce planning, recruitment, capability development, mentoring, and performance management, in alignment with project and organizational objectives
  • Ensure all subcontracts adhere to all established policies and procedures
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential Functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry specific professional and ethical standards

About You

Qualifications

  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in contract / commercial management
  • Prior experience on transit systems or major infrastructure projects
  • Preferred Education

  • The prerequisites for the role are acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Commerce, Business Administration, Construction Management or related field and combined work experience
  • PMP certification is an asset
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Excellent understanding Contract Law principles
  • Ability to interpret terms, clauses, and risk allocation
  • Familiarity with different contract types
  • Ability to negotiate pricing, scope, risk, and liabilities
  • Ability to monitor performance, milestones, and deliverables
  • Solid understanding of KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics
  • Ability to manage risk logs and identify contractual, financial, and operational risks
  • Knowledge of drafting and negotiating mitigation strategies
  • Understanding of cost drivers, margins, and value for money
  • Ability to managing change, variations, and claims
  • Ability to manage relationships with suppliers, clients, and internal teams
  • Ability to anticipate disputes and prevent escalation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Proficient understanding of MS Office Suite applications, JDE E1, and Sharepoint
  • Valid Driver's License

  • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
