About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director Health Services (WZ), the Director of Health Services/Site Lead is responsible for strategic and operational planning, management and leadership of health services at Valley Regional Hospital, and zone responsibilities of Critical Care and Respiratory programs in the Western Zone.

In a co-leadership relationship with the Medical Site Lead, the Director of Health Services/Site Lead provides operational leadership and direction to the members of the health care team for the day to day operations of Valley Regional Hospital by facilitating collaboration and integration of activities. This role directs and coordinators site operations and provides leadership to members of the health care team to create and support the culture of the organization. This position supports and ensures the development and execution of an operational plan, excellence in service and care delivery, improvement in health outcomes, and achievement of standards of care established by Nova Scotia Health and Department of Health and Wellness. The Director acts as the face of Nova Scotia Health in the local community with the general public and community partners, and supports efforts to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of service delivery.

The Director of Health Services/Site Lead provides leadership in the development and coordination of integrated health program in the Western Zone for Critical Care and Respiratory, reflecting the vission, mission, goals and straetgic directions of Nova Scotia Health. This role ensures continuous improvement to advance a vision of excellence within the provision of care and is responsible for the development, maintenance and monitoring of quality management and safety programs, and compliance with relevant standards and accreditation requirements. The Director facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with the current and proposed future state of Nova Scotia Health.


Working in a matrix model and in a co-leadership relationship with the Medical Site Lead, this role provides operational leadership and direction for the day-to-day operations of the sites to support the culture of the organization and the provision of sustainable safe and high-quality health care which is accessible, people-centered, promotes health and wellness and optimizes the health of Nova Scotians.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related discipline required
  • Master’s Degree in a health-related discipline an asset
  • Registration with relevant health or professional discipline/college or association
  • Certified Health Executive designation an asset
  • 5-7 years of recent relevant leadership experience with progressive accountabilities for financial, strategic and people management to deliver high quality services within a complex service model provided throughout several locations
  • Excellent leadership, relationship building, organizational and decision skills in support of patient, family, and client centred services
  • Expert knowledge to critically analyze evidence-based practices to inform strategy development and organizational planning
  • Demonstrated skill in strategic planning and systems thinking
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders
  • Evidence-based collaborative problem solving of complex multifaceted issues
  • Critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Understands the principles of project management and demonstrated ability to create and lead complex work teams and change
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills that are responsive to audience needs
  • Demonstrated cultural competence
  • Collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution and persuasion skills required for the engagement of internal and external stakeholders
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent, full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Scale Type: Management
Band: 8
Hourly Rate: $67.23 - $82.35
Annual Salary: $131,089 - $160,583

Successful candidates may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, and travel insurance; long-term disability and life insurance coverage; and a defined benefit pension plan.
