Who we need
Reporting to the University Librarian (UL), we are hiring an Information Literacy Librarian (ILL) for a 13-month contract. In this role, you will design and deliver tailored library services, instruction, and academic support across both on-campus and online learning environments. You will lead the library’s information literacy programming, collaborating with Student Success Librarians as needed to expand its reach and impact. By working closely with faculty, students, and staff, you will play a key role in advancing teaching, learning, and research initiatives, ensuring the library meets the university community’s evolving information and research needs.
This is a 13-month contract, hybrid role, working 2-3 days per week onsite at our campus in New Westminster.
What’s in it for you
Impact. You want to channel your passion for innovative teaching and learning approaches toward developing library instructional webinars, presentations, and best practices to support student learning, success, and retention.
Exposure. You want to expand your reach and impact both creatively and strategically. You will work cross-functionally to identify and assess student needs and design and deliver webinars and videos to meet their needs further. You will represent library services at curriculum, faculty, and campus meetings.
Managerial oversight. You are excited by the opportunity to coordinate instructional activities and contribute to the development of a seamless, first-class library experience. You will play a key role in overseeing and aligning the student Success librarian's instructional efforts, ensuring consistency, collaboration, and effectiveness across the library’s information literacy programming.
Career growth. Yorkville University is a progressive, forward-thinking, innovative education centre. Joining us now is a genuine opportunity for builders who want to work in higher education. You want to further your leadership skills by taking on managerial responsibilities to ensure a seamless, first-class library experience that prioritizes student success and engagement.
As our Information Literacy Librarian, you will :
- Be a trusted advisor. You will be a go-to source of information and expertise, supporting students, faculty, and staff. You will answer research and reference questions, deliver instruction onsite and online, and guide users in navigating information resources. Every day will bring variety as you balance instructional sessions, respond to service requests, develop library resources, attend curriculum meetings, and support logistics such as textbook management.
- Deliver comprehensive information literacy programming. You will design, develop, and lead instructional programs and resources for a diverse range of academic programs across Yorkville University and Toronto Film School. In partnership with the University Librarian, you will coordinate the instructional activities of the Student Success Librarians (SSL) to provide targeted support in areas such as bibliographic software, database research, APA citation, and artificial intelligence tools. You will also create engaging video tutorials, library guides, and digital learning materials to enhance accessibility and improve student and faculty experiences.
- Analyze data. You will establish and track key metrics, gather feedback, and prepare reports to evaluate the effectiveness of information literacy programming, aligning with library instruction standards and best practices.
- Collaborate. You will regularly engage in activities like reviewing course syllabi, collaborating with curriculum design, attending curriculum committee meetings, etc., to identify and assess student needs. You will participate in university-wide initiatives, including serving on key university committees, regulatory meetings, and other special projects as assigned.
- Deliver library services. You will promote information literacy and other library services on-campus and online. You will provide reference and research support in person and online via email, phone, video (e.g., Teams or Zoom) and / or the ASK YU / TFS service request system. You will lead library orientations (and other social and academic events) across campus classes, focusing on on-campus and online delivery methods. You will serve as the primary library liaison for undergraduate, graduate, or subject specializations.
