Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at UNSW

UNSW Medicine & Healthis a national leader in learning teaching and research with close affiliations to several of Australias finest hospitals research institutes and health care organisations.

The Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health within the School of Clinical Medicine leads the delivery of educational and research activities aimed at the maintenance of child and adolescent health from the neonatal period until 18 years of age.

Details of the role

Located at UNSW on the SCH / POWH Hospitals Campus the Technical Assistant - Paediatric Infectious Diseaseswill require the incumbent to work closely with senior research staff and provide support for a variety of research-related activities.

The role interacts with internal and external collaborators and entails a level of independent judgement discretion and utilisation of initiative and professionalism to provide a high level of support across the research projects. The Technical Assistant will be the contact point for a wide variety of enquiries across the research activities of the Senior Research Fellows research team and plays a key supporting role in the teams projects.

The Technical Assistant requires strong organisational prioritisation and time management skills as well as strong communication skills and the ability to be self-motivated with a professional attitude. Showing initiative to provide a high level of support to academic and professional staff and continually improve administrative processes relevant to the role is essential.

The role of the Technical Assistant will report directly to the Senior Research Fellow (Brendan McMullan) and has no direct reports.

Some key skills required :

  • Completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Experience with REDCAP.
  • Administrative support to various research activities including but not limited to :
  • Ethics submissions / reports

  • Grant applications
  • Maintenance of study database record files paperwork and computer files related to the projects
  • Manuscript submissions
  • Sample logging coordinating transport of samples
  • Experience in provision of administrative support in the research sector preferably in a multi-institutional environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to provide effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve team objectives within set timeframes.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work efficiently and meet deadlines while working across multiple projects.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of standard application software such as the Microsoft Office suite.
