Job description
FAMILY LAWYER (AKA: THE LEGAL UNICORN WE’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR) WANTED: A talented, awesome, humble‑but‑confident Family Lawyer who can navigate intense clients, unpredictable court lists, surprise emergencies, spontaneous client requests, and still be kind to the barista who got your coffee order wrong. We’re Sullivan Law Professional Corporation — a growing, community‑rooted, kindness‑based, workflow‑obsessed family law practice that takes our work seriously… but never ourselves. If you like supportive teammates, good snacks, and the occasional office dog sighting, you may have found your new legal home. THIS POSITION IS FOR YOU IF YOU CAN: - Manage a Family Law file from start to finish without sacrificing your soul in the process. - Explain section 7 expenses to clients with enthusiasm. - Bring compassion, clarity, and a strategic mind to high‑stress situations. - Work independently and know when to tag in the team. - Use technology without calling it “newfangled.” - Understand deadlines are not “friendly suggestions.” - Keep your ego checked at the door — we don’t do ego. Ever. - Actually enjoy helping people through their hardest days (weird flex, but we respect it). SUPERHERO SKILLS REQUIRED: - At least 1 year of experience in Family Law, OR significantly more if you’re a seasoned pro. - Superior knowledge in your chosen practice areas — yes, we will ask questions. - Kindness. Respect. Compassion. (Non-negotiable.) - Wicked organizational skills and file management that doesn’t make your future self cry. - High attention to detail — because details matter when families are involved. - Comfort with technology and a willingness to learn new systems (bonus points if you delight in automation). - Must be a Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (we’re wild, but not that wild). BONUS LEVEL SKILLS (NOT REQUIRED, BUT COOL POINTS AWARDED): - Ability to manage complex Family Law matters with finesse - Previous experience in mediation, litigation, or alternative dispute resolution - Experience mentoring junior staff - The ability to resist checking your email past 9 p.m. (we encourage boundaries!) WHAT YOU GET (AKA: THE GOOD STUFF): - A full-time, permanent role starting Winter–Spring 2026. We are waiting for our unicorn and are comfortable waiting until they appear. - Compensation that respects your experience (plus: extended health & dental, RRSP matching, HSA, and all the grown‑up benefits) - A positive, dynamic legal team built on kindness, respect, humour, and teamwork - A flexible, tech-friendly office with efficient workflows - Celebrations whenever we can justify cake (which is often) - An office dog who isn’t technically part of HR but absolutely influences morale - The freedom to be your full, authentic, quirky self — we insist on it THE VIBE AT SULLIVAN LAW: - We take our work seriously, but not ourselves - We eat lunch together (it’s adorable, honestly) - We celebrate wins, big and small - We support each other - We make space for real life - We value different perspectives, backgrounds, and lived experiences - We show up as humans first, lawyers second DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, BELONGING & ACCESSIBILITY We are committed to building a workplace where everyone feels welcome, respected, supported, and empowered. Accessibility accommodations are available throughout the hiring process — just tell us what you need. TO APPLY Submit your cover letter and résumé through www.indeed.ca and we will interview candidates as unicorns apply. If you want your cover letter to truly stand out, tell us why your personality fits this position — and use the word “health.” Trust us. All applications are confidential.
