Job Profile

As the Bilingual Personal Support Worker serves an older adult population under the direction of the Community Support Services Coordinator and works in partnership with members of the Day Program, Friendly Visiting and Recreation staff teams to adult members of the Francophone community living in Cambridge and within Waterloo Region and Wellington County.

What you will be doing

  • Provides personal care to meet the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of each client including toileting, changing clothing or briefs, perineal care, occasional showering and administers first aid including CPR, AED during medical emergency as required.
  • Observes, assesses, and reports changes in clients' health, behaviours and activities and completes required documentation in client records.
  • Informs programmer or designate of the above client health, behaviour changes or safety risks as part of end of shift debrief.
  • Completes incident/accident reports or provides information for the completion of report by other staff when part of the staff team supporting the accident or incident.
  • Participates in client care planning and problem solving to ensure clients are able to safely participate in activities.
  • Supervises and/or reminds participants to take medication, keeps client medications safe and secure, and maintains appropriate records.
  • Assists participants with single person physical lifts transfers or with the use of a 2-person mechanical lift. Performs and completes pivot transfers to assist clients to move from wheelchair to chair or chair to standing; and, guides participants with seating and standing as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and tidy work space and keeps supply cabinets in the washroom or storage areas in an orderly fashion and inform informs staff when supplies are required; cleans and disinfects program equipment, kitchen and program areas; washes dishes; mops floor, and launders oiled linens and client clothing.
  • Assists participants on walks inside and out of the facility and helps with any assistive device participants may require.
  • Assists and provides direction, modelling, encouragement for clients to more fully participate in the group activities or may be assigned to work one to one with clients not able to join in the group activities.
  • Assists with food preparation, meal service, and meal assistance as necessary.
  • Maintains the dignity and individuality of each client.

Education

High school Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

  • One to Two years of experience assisting the elderly and/or adults with disabilities, with personal hygiene including toileting, grooming, showering, dressing, meal assistance or any other activities of daily living. Experience working with people with dementia, cognitive, or development challenges in a community based setting is an asset.
  • Able to perform the physical demands associated with this position.
  • A proven track record of being accountable for multiple deliverables, reporting, and high- quality performance.
  • Outstanding focus to safety and ethical standards.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer satisfaction at all times.
  • Independent problem solving abilities and able to recognize when support from peers and supervisors is needed.
  • Current and valid Standard First Aid, AED and CPR certification.

We are looking for these certificates

Personal Support Worker certificate from an accredited institution or other equivalent education and training with 340 hours in-class instruction and 360 hours clinical workplace experience.Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED

Required Language

Bilingual in English and French including verbal, written and comprehension.

French-language competency equivalent to a Secondary School (Grade 12) diploma from a French Language School Board or French Language testing equivalent to DELF Level B1 or higher.

Rate of pay

This non-union position current hourly rate of pay is $27.44 per hour (2026 rate).

Hours of work

Scheduled and call-in shifts and hours may vary between 8:00am - 9:00pm, Monday to Sunday. A minimum of two scheduled (5.5 hours) shifts per week with additional shifts for vacation and sick coverage as required.
