Job Description

SGS is looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (as a sub-contractor) for a short- term contract in Chester, NS. The work would start in May and last 4-6 weeks with intermittent frequency of inspection visits during this period.

The scope of work includes ensuring that welding, blasting, coating processes comply with codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements by performing visual inspections.

  • Witnessing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at vendors’ facilities for the following systems: PLR SL001 - Anchoring Windlasses, Winches, and Capstans.
  • A preparatory Teams meeting prior to site attendance,
  • Review of turnover documentation (e.g., MTRs and fabrication reports),
  • Any associated additional support.
  • Ensure that materials, equipment, and safety regulations are followed.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results, including any issues found.

Qualifications

  • Must have CWB level 2, with coating inspection experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years industrial welding-related inspection experience.
  • Two (2) of these years should be in Quality Assurance / vendor surveillance / shop inspections inspector.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of welding & painting inspections of shipbuilding projects
  • Must have inspections experience at manufacturer shops / facilities
  • Welding & Painting inspection experience of Anchoring Windlasses, Winches and Capstans
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday - up to 8 hrs a day
  • Rate: $45-$50/hr depending on experience plus 0.70/km
  • If the inspection site is beyond round trip 200 km from the inspector place of residence then per diem could be applicable.
