Position Overview:

As a Project Manager within our growing Calgary Structural Engineering Team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering structural engineering solutions across various projects, with a particular focus on new and existing institutional, commercial and residential buildings. From concept design to detailed design and construction, you will apply your expertise to design new structures, evaluate existing structures, provide innovative solutions, and support our commitment to excellence.

You thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and bring hands-on experience across all phases of project development from conception through construction. Your level of professionalism and dedication, technical expertise, and client-focused approach reflect what sets us apart in the industry.

General Responsibilities:

  • Attitude: Exhibit a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team spirit. Lead by example and inspire collaboration, accountability, and a client-focused mindset.
  • Marketing: Build Sense Engineering's brand through exceptional partner engagement. Represent Sense professionally, building positive relationships with clients, contractors and other consultants.
  • Knowledge Development: Enhance your technical expertise and stay current on industry trends and best practices

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze structures for new construction, renovation and restoration and rehabilitation projects.
  • Evaluate existing buildings, leveraging knowledge of diverse materials and structural systems.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members to ensure project success.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and budgets effectively for successful project delivery.
  • Conduct site reviews and contract administration inspections and provide guidance during construction.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure seamless communication.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, construction documents, and project proposals.
  • Represent Sense at client meetings and other networking functions with a commitment to exceptional service standards.
  • Support mentoring of junior engineers and knowledge sharing within Sense
  • Occasional travel within Canada required, with the majority of projects to be within Alberta
  • Other duties as assigned/required

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within a structural engineering firm, preferably involving existing buildings and new construction of institutional, commercial and residential buildings
  • Strong technical expertise in structural engineering and materials
  • Registered or actively pursuing registration with the Association of Profession Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Proficiency with structural design software (e.g., S-Frame, ETABS, spSlab) and familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit
  • Proven ability to apply project management principles, from strategic planning and budgeting to resource allocation and scope control
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and relationship building skills with a proven ability to build trust with clients and contractors
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail coupled with a client-centric mindset
  • Team player who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to creative thinking and approaching challenges from fresh perspectives, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the organization
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation required

Why Join Sense Engineering?

  • Join a vibrant and supportive team of dedicated professionals who value collaboration and camaraderie - plus, we make time for fun with our monthly social events!
  • Work on impactful projects with leading clients and contractors.
  • Enjoy opportunities for professional development and knowledge sharing.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package including profit sharing twice a year.
  • Eventual opportunities to purchase shares in a successful and growing company.

We appreciate the time and effort of all applicants, however only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates participating in all stages of the selection process.
